Two better than one? For those of you with more than one (but not 10) yorkies out there, have you found that two is easier that one in the sense that they entertain each other? Thanks for your opinion! Hannah |
Ok, I do have six now, but last year I just had my Zowie and Bronx. They have been such a joy to us. Zowie had puppies 5/22/05 and we couldn't part with them, so now we have six. I strongly recommend two, but not six, it is a lot of work, just hugging and kissing all of them each day is practically a full time career. Good luck deciding. I think they love us as much as each other. When you are too tired to play, you can just watch. Get boy fixed at around 6 months. Don't let them play noisily indoors - ever. It is cute for a couple of times. |
Hannah, I have found that the two (actually I have two yorkie puppies and an adult Smooth fox terrier) do entertain each other, but the work has more than tripled. I probably should have waited before getting another puppy after I got General Patton. It is hard also to train because they both are wanting to get in on the learning experience, hehe |
:aimeeyork :aimeeyork DEFINITELY TWICE THE FUN ! Ours are 2 yrs apart, sister, same parents. :yelrotflm :yelrotflm  |

I am sure we'll talk more about that tomorrow! I just have found that it would probably be best to wait till one puppy is fully trained before getting the next! Thank goodness that Bella is so wonderful! |

I noticed you are a college student. I would probably recommend that you wait a bit on another dog. Your life will change a lot over the next few years. I have a niece at South Carolina State, she is quite the busy one. |

I wasn't trying to slam college students, believe me! I have three nieces and a nephew in college, hopefully two sons and another nephew next year. It can be very hectic and lots of fun. A person just needs to carefully consider any pet they choose at that time. My niece would love a yorkie, but decided to wait. Her sister has a miniature dachsund and needs constant babysitting. My point was really that with dating, clubs (school type), etc. You life can change in so many ways that all big decisions (like dogs) might better wait for a more stable time. |

You are absolutely right, and some people can't live without a dog in their life (me, for one). It is still front and center no matter what. |
All that two means is that you have two minds thinking about what they can get into and what mischief is next on their agenda. More then two and it is like a class of preschoolers who have been fed lots of sugar treats- a never ending circus. |
It's funny you ask this question because I was just thinking about this today. I started off with Bentley...then got Bitsy for a playmate. I definitely reccomend having two as opposed to one!!! No question about it!!! When they had puppies and we ended up keeping two, not that I would trade any of them for anything, but having four is very time consuming!! The absolute worst part of having four is trying to give them all individual attention in a fair way...AND, for instance, this past Tuesday I took Bailey on a long afternoon outing to my Mom's and my sons...today I took Charlie...it is SOOOOOO hard to take one and leave the other three at home!!! It is just heartbreaking to walk out the door and have the other three looking at me and not understanding why they don't get to go :(!!! But I have to take turns because I can't take them all anywhere without help and keep up with them. Even taking two is harder than taking one...this is the only drawback. I always feel like I am giving one more attention than the other and it just makes me feel bad all the time:( |
It's funny you say that you feel guilty, I think quite the opposite. With all six, I give attention to all at certain times (getting up and about in the morning), and let them choose who seems most in need of attention. I think they split up my time rather evenly. I don't take them places. We did all go to my mother's for Thanksgiving as all my family requested their presence. It was an awful lot of work, even with the help of my two teenage boys. I was thinking of taking only three (because I have three young nieces), but it seemed so mean to choose. We all had fun and everyone got home safe and happy. ;) |
