Home Alone Question Tomorrow, I will be out of the house for several hours and soon going back to work. I have no problem leaving my pups alone but I'm not sure if I should leave them in the same room. Miss Mia will be in her xpen with her bed, litter box, water toys etc., she can not be trusted yet to run the house. Miss Mini however does not require crateing etc., Should I close that room off to Miss Mini or shut her in the room Miss Mia is in? I usually confine Miss Mini to a room but I just don't know if leaving them in the same room is the proper thing to do?? Any input you can offer, thanks in advance. |
In my opinion, there is no easy, one-size-fits all answer to this question. It depends on your dogs, their personalities, and how they get along. |

i agree. like with my dogs. of course i seperate oscar from the huge airedale when i leave for obvious reasons but i do not even leave him and the shih tzu together although they adore each other cause they play too rough to leave unsupervised... |
It does depend on how they behave. If you think your older dog will not bother the younger one then it may be OK. I'd try leaving them for a short time and see how it goes. Maybe come back and stand by the door and listen. It would be nice if they had each others company but you have to make sure they are ready for that. |
Thanks for the replys. Heres what happened. I have a huge master bedroom, I normally leave my older girl in there with the door closed when I leave the house. Well Miss Mias xpen etc., are in my bedroom as well. I know I can't leave them alone together, Miss Mia has to be be in her xpen. They play to rough and I honestly am not comfortable leaving the queen with the new princess yet! Anyways, I came home and My older girl peed on the floor 2ce in front of the xpen, what the heck is this? She is spayed and she is 100 percent litter trained? I think for now I will leave them in opposite rooms on opposite sides of the house??? Input appreciated. |
It sounds like your older dog may have been upset that she could not get to the younger one to play. It may be best to put them in different rooms until the younger one is more mature and does not have to be in the X pen. |
