Top Knots Anyone have any tips on what products to use and how to properly put a top knot in my Yorkies hair. I want her to be all pretty for puppy class graduation on friday :) |
I am glad you started this thread because I am curious as well |
I'm interested as well. One thing my groomer does that helps is to use a special doggie rubber band that is tiny and extremely stretchy. Supposedly, they don't tear the hair. I put a rubber band in, then I put a nicer scrunchy or bow over that. Not sure if that's the best method, but with the band in the topknot stays in place longer. I change it out every couple days. |

Hi, I was wondering should I use wrap first and then band ? or without wrap? where can I get these wraps? Thanks. |
Thanks for this information. I still struggle with the topknot. Most breeders tell me it just takes practice. |
This website has a lot of good tips on topknot placement. You will also find grooming bands that will work well with a topknot. Placing Bows - Videos : Dog Bows, Quality Dog Bows - Yorkie, Maltese, Shih Tzu - by BowBiz |
What great tips! Great thread! Thanks for asking this! Katie Scarlett's top knot is on the thin side still. I try to do the best I can, but it's a work in progress. :) |
These are my favorite latex free bands. My girl has thin fur so I use this size but they come in a couple of different sizes. This is the bust buy I have found on the latex free. Latex Free Dog Grooming Bands, 500 - CLEAR, 1/4" | eBay You always want to have your grooming band in place before putting a bow in. |
I was just going to post a question re top knots when I saw this post. I notice that Zoey has lost hair and the scalp is red and sore looking. I don't use the grooming rubber bands but I use tiny little clips that have tiny teeth to hold the hair. I can't see why this is happening to her head. I would post a picture but I can't seem to get it downloaded into the post. Any ideas? |
I just checked out the video re attaching and removing a bow. I have been putting the clip at the base of the hair and that must be what is irritating her skin. Still, if anyone has any other suggestions please let me know. |

Some people use the tiny scrunchies to hold the hair up when not in a regular topknot. Never leave a clip or band in overnight. |
