Smelly Face My Yorkie's eyes tear alot and I noticed that it smells bad. If I'm not able to wipe his face every night with a warm washcloth, the tears harden and are tough to remove. Are there any solutions to this problem? Is this common in Yorkies? What else can I do his face smells horrible? |
I am experiencing the same problem. One response to me was it may be an infection (either yeast or in her nose) that may be causing the problem. I am going to call our vet and ask so if I hear anything useful I will be sure to let you know! |
I would make a vet appt. It sounds like a yeast infection, but I would have a vet look at it to make sure. Some dogs who tear a lot are prone to yeast. If you do a search here, there have been some recent threads posted concerning yeast in the "tearing area" of the face and some remedies/meds that can be tried. |
Here's a link to one of the threads. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ar-stains.html |
One thing that will help is giving only Gerber Pure Water. You can get this in gallon jugs at WalMart. It cuts down on the tearing considerably and quickly. IMO the main problem is keeping their hair out of their eyes which I find almost entirely impossible. The wetness can lead to yeast infections which is why cutting down on the tearing is so important, plus the skin can just break down under all that gunk! |
I use an antibacterial eye ointment from my vet...helps with clearing it up quickly. |
