Did I miss anything on my New Puppy Checklist?? I'm so excited to be bringing home my new baby, Luma, on March 9!! Eek, so soon yet so far away!! So here's what I've got so far: Excercise pen right next to our bed :) Doggy bed Chew toys, plush toys, and interactive toys Harness leash I.d. tags Pee pads for now, til we can pottytrain her Dog bowls we handpainted and fired for her lots of dog training and yorkie books Slicker brush Comb Puppy wipes shampoo and conditioner AND detangling spray No-slip mat for the sink Dog food Training treats and dental chews Nail clippers toothbrush and toothpaste ...so!! we have done tons of research but do you guys see anything major we missed? (I love an excuse to go shopping...LOL!) |
Also forgot a wellness plan at the vet :P that's important too! |
Nutri Cal-Puppy to keep on hand...just in case you need it. Should her sugar drop...it's right there handy. How exciting, a new puppy...I know you can hardly wait. I'd say you are well prepared. March 9th...let the funny begin:) Enjoy you new baby, can't wait to see picture and watch her grow here on YT:thumbup: |
Oh you're so right! Thank you for that. Do you know if petsmart or petco carries it? If not I'll order some online tonight. :) And yes I'm so excited..I don't even know what to do with myself! I want her home now so badly :/ |
How exciting! Congratulations! I know you are so ready to pick up your little one! I hope the time comes quick for ya! :) Your list looks good to me! The only thing I can think of that is not on there is outfits/bows if you want to do that type of thing. Get 'em started early! It will make life easier in the long run, or it did for us. LOL. I started dressing and topknotting Katie Scarlett from day 1. It took her a bit to get used to it, but now she loves it! We have our morning ritual now. You can start out with basic plain bands and simple t-shirts. :) |
Looks like a great list. Nice work! I love to see new Yorkie owners who are prepared. I'd agree with the nutrical suggestion. Make sure your still camera and video camera is charged! |

oh a new puppy... how exciting! i agree with others as you have compiled a great list! nutri cal should definitely be added as it can be a life saver. make sure you keep it wherever your new puppy goes. also, you might want to look in to a pin brush rather than a slicker brush as a slicker can damage their coats and some can be painful if your pup has a thinner coat. aside from that, looks like your ready to be a new puppy mommy! congratulations on the new bundle of joy!!! |
I like to buy an inexpensive fleece throw and cut it into 4 pieces. Just the right size for our small pups and always a fresh one to put down. Great if the breeder will keep a piece so it has their scent. I didn't have time with Abby but bought it with me and rubbed it on her mom. With Ziva I gave them the dog bed for a few days, she knew it was hers and wouldn't let the other pups near it! |
I wouldn't use a slicker. Just a brush and a metal comb. Sounds like you are ready and it will be exciting bringing your new baby home. Good luck with your little one. |
Good list, sounds like you are ready. Agree I LOVE seeing a new owner prepare (I did not prepare so well). One thing I would add is time to rearrange your life, it will change for the better when your new baby comes home. You will find that things you wanted to do before are no longer important if you can't involve your little Yorkie. |
One thing I can think of is if you don't know it is to get the address and number of any emergency vets in your area in case you vet is closed during an emergency. I can't tell you how vital this is. I have the emergency vet number and address on my refrigerator and in my cell phone. I know it takes me about 20 - 30 minutes to get the emergency vet from my house. I had to rushed Brandi to the emergency vet twice in the middle of the night. Luckily for me, they were just minor issues but I didn't know that at the time. |
So happy for you and love your excitement... |
