Yorkies that are pee pad trained only How does you all with completely pee pad trained yorkies travel or go to others homes?... Or even on vacation? Does it get confusing for them? |
Our wonderful breeder already started Toto's pad training before we brought her home at 16 wks. She instructed us how to keep it up and we did. We simply praised her and in the beginning gave her a little Cheerio treat. She always pees/pottys on the pad regardless of where she is ... home, flying, visiting, etc. I simply put a pad down and show her where it is. She will not, however, pee/potty on a pad that already has been used. ;) Yes, it takes more pads but she gives us so much joy, I figure that's the least we can do for her ... she is 8 years old and not a day goes by that we do not thank God that we have her in our life.:thumbup: BTW, when we walk her, if she needs to go, she will also pee/potty ourside. |
We use washable pads... Whenever we go on trips we bring those along.... Once we arrive, we just show them where it is and typically we don't have any accidents... Mine also use the "fake grass" tray... Our last trip I also brought along a small roll of indoor outdoor grass and would just cut pieces and lay on a small area of their potty pad. (one of my crew only "goes" on the fake grass!! Lol |
I consider Gracie to be mostly pee pad trained. Of course when I take her out she goes pee but she uses the pee pad most of the day. I swear she pees a lot for a little dog! Since she is used to peeing outside when I walk her twice a day it's not hard on her when we travel. We just find a place with grass where she can walk around for a few minutes. I have the pee pads and frame in case we can't find a suitable place. She is so accustomed to using them she has no problem. When we get to where we are going I just make sure she is near the pee pad and knows where to go. I don't let her wander very far from it especially if I think she may need to use it soon. I also take her for walks frequently. She loves adventure. |

His first road trip was challenging for him, but after the second rest stop, it went on the grass outside. Been fine ever since. In the hotel, on the pee pad... On the road, in the grass. We just took a trip to New Orleans to watch a couple parades this weekend. We stopped at a really nice dog park in the french quarter, and he went as soon as he hit the grass. Unfortunately it was way to cold for the three of us to enjoy new Orleans. Well below thirty last night. Been in the 70's for the past few weeks here in Louisiana. We had fun though... secret ops sneaking dickie into the hilton riverside, one of the only non-dog friendly hotels in NOLA. We let dickie tinkle just off the corner of his pad this one time! We could tell he enjoyed it... |

Bear was completely trained by 16 weeks....he was 98% trained when I got him from the trainer at 12 weeks. He uses washable peepads. I took him on his first plane ride and trip to visit family in Georgia over Christmas and he did great. I showed him the pad one time at my brothers house and he went to it every time. He will also pee a little when we go on walks as he smells that other dogs have done it, too. |
