i have a question about harnesses
 
where is the best place to get a small one for a yorkie puppy around 12 weeks old?

i will be bringing a little one home in about 4 weeks!

when we brought Kiva home many many years ago (1998) i'm pretty sure the breeder gave us one. don't remember buying one until she was much bigger.

so any ideas on where to get one?

I would get a cheap step in harness from petsmart or petco until she is full grown and then I would look into a good harness like the buddy belt. Congrats on your new pup!

yea i was wondering if my best option would be just to go to a pet store. now i know. looks like that's on next weeks agenda.

You don't bring her home for 4 weeks, why not wait a bit to see how much she grows? ;)

Also you wouldn't want to take her on walks until all shots are given. So I would wait a while.

yea we're supposed to go see her again next weekend.

i would still like to look beforehand to see what the stores have. i will probably bring her with us to actually try it on before we buy it.

as for taking her out....yea it will be a while.

Be sure to buy from a store that does not sell animals. Anything you purchase from them also helps puppy mills. Sorry but its true.

A small harness from Chokefreeharness.com will only cost about $18 but is leather and will fit perfectly give or take a pound!!

yep, i known that for a long time. i follow people that are against puppy mills. thanks for your advice.

I tried on every harness I could find for Katie Scarlett when we got her. Every single one of them were too big. I had to go into the pet section at Petco and get her a cat harness until she grew a bit bigger. This is the one we got:

Coastal Pet Pink Mesh Cat Harness at PETCO

And being a little over $5 it did not break the bank until I could get her a better one when she grew.

Where are you seeing these for $18?? That is not a website and I looked at Chokefree.com and they don't see them but other websites do and none are for $18. Thanks.

ha that's funny about the cat harness....the breeder said maybe i should look at ones for cats or ferrets. but i wanted to see what you guys had for sources first. great price for it too!

Thats so funny I thought that I was the only one that purchased the first harness from the cat section LOL.

Hi! Congratulations on getting a new puppy! Chattiesmom makes adjustable silk harnesses, so it will get her through a few growth stages...very reasonably priced too!

This is a very safe and secure harness. I have one for Gracie. This is a really good price for it with free shipping. XS is great size for a puppy and is some what adjustable.

I als used the Puppia harness on Sophie Kate when she was a puppy. I had a horrible time finding one that would fit so I finally broke down and took her to a dog boutique and they fit her for me (I was afraid to take her out before all her shots).

I wish I had thought of the Cat harness, that is a great idea. I have also seen really little Feret harnesses.

Now we use a Puppia for when she is riding in her Snoozer seat and a Buddy Belt for walks.
