Should I be worried about this? I had Marley (16 weeks old) groomed on Wednesday. On Thursday I took him back to the breeders for her to sit (she has 5 other dogs) for the day as the family had to go out of town for the day for a funeral. Thursday evening when we returned I noticed he was acting strange. When outside he will walk a few steps then sit, walk a few steps then sit, walk a few steps crouch and sit. He also keeps looking towards his bottom and sniffing and biting at it. My husband and I both have inspected his bottom and feces and everything looks normal. He also only does this outside and not inside. Why is he doing this? Is it because the groomers shaved his bottom for the first time? If so, it seems he would be used to it by now (2 days after groomers) and done this on the day he was groomed; which he didn't. Did something happen at the breeders? Should I call breeder and ask if anything unusual happened? I did notice when we got him home that evening around 5:30 and gave him dinner, he ate double what he normally does. Other than this odd behavior he seems fine, playful, full of energy, eating is normal. I'm just really worried. |
Try putting a little hydrocortisone cream on his bottom and see if that helps. If it is just itching that is causing his behavior, then you'll know it was the close shave. |
I agree, it could be because his bottom itches from the grooming. My shih tzu and airedale both do that right after but calm down fairly quickly. |
I agree too!! :thumbup: :) It's a bit like when you shave your legs - it's ok at first, but gets a bit itchy-scratchy when the hair starts to grow back in, a couple of days later? I reckon that's what your Littlie's feeling :D Sally + Harry x |
Did the groomer express his anal glands? Maybe that's bothering him? |
I would also suggest to call & see if his anals were expressed & if not, that could be the problem. It could also be that his bum is bothering him from the trim as some dogs can't be cut too short at the anus as it pokes them. I have 5 dogs & 2 out of my 5 can't have that area cut too short or it drives them crazy till it grows out a bit. |
I would say either his bottom was shaved too closely (Jack has done this before when he was closely shaved) or it be his anal glands. Though they will usually "scoot" across the floor if its the glands - at least my dogs (past and present) scoot. Hope he is feeling better soon. |
Now I think he was dominated by the breeders dogs. He seems to do it when he is on the side of fence next to our neighbors who has 2 dogs. Then to make things worse we brought him to my brothers house who lives out of town and has a 2 year old male yorkie and a 4 year old American dingo (female). While in his house he did the same thing crouching walking & sitting. We were there only an hour. Went back to my moms and he is walking and sitting in the house because the female was dominating. When we removed her marley seemed to try to play with the other male yorkie but was still cowarding. I was with the groomer & she did not express anal glands. She just washed, dried, nails, face, paws, and around his bum because it was his first visit. I was beside him the whole time too. Do you also think it may be because of this? If so what should I do? Is he scarred for life? So stressed and I feel like a horrible mom to him. |
