Gizmo not taking this well!! LOL How do you tell a dog he is not a Yorkie" For the two months that we have had Gizmo I have been grooming him everyday sometimes twice even three times a day. The entire time I tell him how cute he is and how adorable he will be wearing Bows in his hair and cute outfits to keep him warm. I told him this is what "Yorkie" do. I HAD HIM CONVINCED HE WAS A YORKIE..A CUTE BOW, OUTFITS AND PJ WEARING YORKIE!!. Now we find out he is a Rat Terrier and Chinese Crested Mix. Rat Terriers hey they dig holes and I have never seen one with Bow in his hair much less an outfit on. Hey Yorkie don't get dirty and Rat Terriers well lets just say they live in the mud. I need help...Gizmo keeps jumping on the stool wanting to be groomed I know he is waiting on all that long silky hair I promised him. Now what do I do????? I was thinking of hair extensions....What do you think? |
Rogain? |
Oh poor gizmo. Just tell him he is beautiful no matter what kind of doggie he is. Be patient , he will get it.... |
Awwwww, poor Gizmo! He's beautiful just the way he is. If he enjoys all the grooming and bows and clothes, then just keep up with it :) As far as Yorkies not digging holes, no one has told that to Belle! She LOVES to dig and get all dirty ;) |
He may get enough hair for a top knot.... brushing will stimulate hair growth... he can still wear clothes. I'd get a refund from his breeder and get him a Yorkie sibling, lol. |
too funny, little Gizmo is a cutie and now you can tell him that he is a rare and exotic breed, because after all how often will you meet another crested rat tee :animal-pa Yorkies as you know are a dime a dozen :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork Also think of it as a blessing in disguise, you have had ONLY two months of grooming and brushing him, take it from me after a while it does get to be a PITA:D plus you still can continue to brush him |
Has his hair grown at all? Those Chinese Crested dogs do get some long fur don't they? At least where they have hair it is long. Of course a Rat Terrier has short hair but it IS a terrier! Yorkies were never meant to be foo foo dogs. They were bred to dig rodents out of holes. I guess that is why some of them enjoy digging in their blankets and in the laundry basket! I don't think you really have to tell him anything has changed. If he is short haired he might need pajamas to stay warm anyway. I think both the breeds that he has in him would tend to get cold easily. He's a little guy and he will still look good with some duds on. I never used to believe in putting clothing on dogs until I got Gracie and noticed how easily she got cold. Now she has a wardrobe. |
And if he never grows a topknot, make a quick release bow for him to wear around his neck. When I worked for a groomer... everybody got a bow! Chinese Crested was my 3rd choice for a dog. You could still pretend he's a Yorkie... I won't tell! |
there are hairless Ch. Crested as well, those are the dogs that look like little ponies. There is a lady on my yorkie group face book page that raises them |
oh he does not have to know until he is 18 years of age...LOL |
lol. He's just fine the way he is. |
In this day and age, the best thing you can do is to allow him to choose what he wants to be, and you should continue to support him no matter what he decides! LOL:) He is too cute! And I vote for the bow tie as well! |
just plop a bow on his head with kayro syrup!! (thats what I did to my daughter when she was a baby!! lol) He is a cutie pie just the way he is though!!! |
lol just keep telling him hes a yorkie and who cares if he wears clothes and bows!! btw extensions are a fabulous idea. hehe. |
Why change anything? Gizmo is still the same. :p The only difference is a chunk of mushed-up tree fiber ("paper"...or maybe a digital database entry..."email") with some writing on it that you paid a couple digits for and had to wait to read! lol Your baby is still as glorious, and smart, and loving as he always was. If you want to put clothes, or bows, or bandana's or Super Gizmo capes, or...what else is there?...on him, who's to say you shouldn't and why would anyone else care? lol And, I am doggone curious where the idea came from that Yorkies always stay clean and don't dig? Mine don't...and do...in that order...lmao...and I have video of little weed-whacker Brody cleansing my yard of bits of green that used to have roots down in the dirt he slung all over both of us. lol I have to watch both of them, Brody and Mia, or they'll be 'halfway to China' digging holes...and they get plenty dirty slinging the 'output' from all that digging. It's like a machine... lol For my part in all this...which is negligible, I admit...lmao...I say don't change anything. Just keep putting his pix up. If Gizmo grows a long flowing coat, fine, and if not, fine. Heck, maybe he'll turn orange and purple and start a whole new fad...and we'll be struggling to keep up! lol Either way, he'll be just as cute as he always was! :D Don't 'sweat' the small stuff...'pet' it instead! :p {{{{HUGS}}}} to you and Gizmo |
I've heard stories about kittens, dogs, birds, etc. who believe they are dogs because they are raised by dogs. So if Gizmo has been raised as a Yorkie, then he thinks he is one! Your post really made me laugh! |
Gizmo is so cute that he can be anything he wants..nuff said. |
[QUOTE=dinkyweil;3821831...................! Your post really made me laugh![/QUOTE] Which is exactly what it was suppose to do. YES I am continuing to groom Gzmo just trying to dial down the silky hair bit just in case he ends up losing what hair he has. His hair does seem to be growing but I have also noticed he has several places, like on his belly and under his chin that the hair is very thin or if I was honest with myself non-existence. I totally agree he is a cutie and so well behaved even around our two year old great grandchild. My DH called him a miracle/saint for the way he has eased into our family. You have to understand that my DH is 72 and I am 65. I have serious health problems which have confined me to a wheelchair for the past two years. When I lost my beloved Mighty Mo last November I was devastated. He had stayed by my side day and night to help me cope. His illness and death was very sudden. I didn't want another dog....it just hurts too bad. My DH had another idea and we got Gizmo. Neither of us had been around puppies for a very long time. He is a very special dog. |
