Jilli Ann's bad experience with the Vet. today! Jilli Ann just got her first Rabies shot and it was horrible!! They put the needle right thru her and it poured out on the table. They got another one and it poured out above the needle. I'd had it by then and took Jilli Ann to a different Vet. who was recommended to me by the base Vet. Looks like Jilli Ann didn't get much of the Rabies vaccine. Anyway I have changed Vets. and scheduled her for a spay and chip on the 23rd. I'm still not quite calm and relaxed, but am working on it. |
Oh, my goodness! I've never heard of such an awful thing. I think it's a very good idea to change vets. I would have as well. I would be as aggravated as you. Was it a regular vet that was giving the shot? |
Oh my gosh....that's horrible! I'm so sorry this happened to you and sweet Jillie...I'm stunned, I can't imagine how it could have happened once, let alone twice. Was it the vet or a tech injecting her? Hugs))) to you both. |
How old is she and how much does she weigh? I would get several references from people with small dogs before going to another vet. Many vets have little to no experience with small dogs and small breed puppies need special attention and expertize. |
Jilli Ann is 22 weeks, 4 days old and weighs 3 pounds 2 ounces. The Vet. I'm going to have her spayed with is very reputable and been in that office ever since I moved here in 1985. I've heard nothing but good things about her, but was first going to a different Vet. 23 miles from here, then he retired and I started going to the Vet. just a few blocks from my house. I don't mind driving into town since it's only 4 miles away. |
Oh my! Poor Jilli Ann! So sorry you guys had a bad experience! |
OMG how traumatic and terrifying! I've never heard of a rabies needle actually going through all the way! I would have been ballistic! Good for you for standing your ground and leaving though. Poor baby.... |
I am so sorry about what happened. For me, it was similar experiences with my human son...dull needles being poked and jabbed cruelly when he was an infant, etc. Then, when he went into the hospital for open heart, the prep nurse punched through all the veins in his arms and feet and they refused even to twilight him to take the many, many vials for type/crossmatch for the heart/lung machine out of his neck. They couldn't get blood 'cuz his veins kept collapsing...he was terrified!!! He was just barely 3 years old at the time. Then, they shoved his crib into a dark corner and pulled a curtain around his bed. He was due in OR at 5 am. Other nurses just barely found him as he was about to go over the top of his crib...and capped it, putting him back with the other babies in peds. The only reason they found him at all was that he was so frightened he kept crying and they kept checking all the babies in the main area...who were all sleeping, and accidentally one nurse was walking in the unoccupied (except for him...wrongly!) area when he cried again! He broke records for going home after open heart surgery 'cuz I wouldn't let him stay in peds after cardio-thoracic released him for return...and that nurse was not allowed to work on a shift without his supervisor!! You were right to get your baby away from there. Not all that glitters is gold...in any profession. I am truly sorry for you and your baby. I do hope she will receive better care from this day forward! |
Wow, I've never heard of that!! I'm glad you took her somewhere else. If they can't do vaccines properly, what else would they have messed up? |
Oh my that is terrible poor thing. |
that had to be traumatic for both of you how awful, when you say they put it through her I am not sure I understand, you mean through her whole leg and out the other side. or through a small piece of skin? several vets had trouble with finding the vein on one of my females. just so sad. I hope she is OK, I bet she was afraid at the new vet |
Oh good lord how horrible. How in the world could they push the needle plumb through poor little Jillie Ann:( That vet must have been an imbecile. Glad you got her out of there. I cringe at the thought of how they would have been with a spay or surgery:eek: |
Thank God your little baby is ok and glad you got another vet. This was an awful thing to happen especially twice. Susan |
OMG, how horrible, that is why I am SO happy my son is a vet tech and he does all the vaccines around here.. only Rabies is done by the gang's vet Dr. Holland... hugs, |
She pulled up the skin at the shoulder area and the needle went straight thru that. This may have actually been a blessing in disquise because I was going to schedule her for a spay and Razael for teeth cleaning. Surgery is scary enough without being comfortable with the Vet. Some reviews: 10/28/11 Nice facility poor service by lachappelld at Citysearch The office staff is rude and do not know their own clients. We had three dogs all had been seen at this clinic. One of the dogs had some dental work and routine tests and shots done with a bill of over 500 dollars. Over the next couple of days the other two dogs were screened for heart worms and given shots. About one week later I placed an order for some meds on online. Of course I listed the vet so they could confirm all tests required had been conducted. This turned out to be a problem as the office staff claimed my dogs were not patients. After several calls and being treated like I was some kind of idiot for ordering the meds online I changed vets. helpful (0) not helpful (0) comment share |
