what do you feed your yorkie? we have bella on wagg complete dry dog food, chicken and veg we have had a nightmare with bella with food shes really fussy, vets sold us a really expensive food which she hates but they always say its better for them blah de blah.....but is it really ? we have put her on this wagg dry food and she loves it only when we pour hot water over it.....hope this is ok..... its the only thing she actually eats all up....vet told us shes underweight because she can feel her spine :( |
i would think that hot water is a way healthier option then putting a bunch of cheese on the top! i'm no expert, but i would say that's totally fine. did the vet check all of her teeth and inside her mouth? since she is still eating the same food it almost seems like the crunch of the kibble is what she doesn't like... any retained baby teeth? i know since Brew got his neuter and 3 retained baby teeth out he has been eating wayyyyyyyyy better. even kibble he used to ignore he will eat now with no problems good luck...i know all too well how much stress thier eating can cause. :animal-pa |
Miss Brandy has a sensative tummy and had been to the vet for it twice.. the petshop had her on blue baffalo but she didn't want to eat it.. then the vet put her on science diet and it made her have the runs.. then finally we tried Healthy extentions chicken and science diet puppy kibble and it did the trick. We mix both food together and it's not to expensive. The chicken is holistic and has chicken broth so I mix them together and let it sit so the kibble could get soft and she digs in..good luck |
she had all her baby teeth took out when she was spayed....she will eat it dry but not all of it....she will eat the lot if i put water over it lol shes a random one but yeah shes just fussy i think! |
Callie was being pickie and I took her dry food and mixed it with a spoon full of wet food and she is eating pretty good now. |
sometime too they say that the dry kibble can go stale like crackers in a pantry, so maybe the hot water is helping the smell come out more to entice her to eat up better. Brew was soooo picky too. i bought like 10 different types hoping to find the one he would love day to day. and i too was heating up the food to get him to eat. plus searching yorkie talk daily and posting all sorts of threads looking for help as well. :confuse8: i have no idea what triggered the big change in his eating habits (neuter, 3 baby teeth out, turning 7 months old, fasting for neuter...) but he is now eating everything we put out for him. he gets either FROMM: duck & sweet potato kibble or taste of the wild: bison & venison kibbble for breaky and wellness canned foods in the evening: whitefish, venison or lamb with sweet potatoe...to answer your original question. but all yorkies are different so what works for us may not for him. :goodluck: and hopefully i didn't add to the confusion!! |
My girls are really picky when it comes to kibble... I used to add water to the kibble, but decided to go with canned food in the am (Whole Earth Farms). I continued to offer kibble in the evening, and try different brands when we finish the bag in an effort to find something they will eat more readily... |
Acana and Weruva wet food. :) |
MIne eat Natural Balance and Weruva Paw Lickin Chicken (Canned) mixed with it. |
I'm finding Bailey to be a picky eater of dry kibble. We recently went to a holistic pet store here in the region called Hollywood Feed. They have an exceptional sample program where they give you free sample packs of many of their dog food brands. Fromm seems to be his favorite so far. Maybe you have such a place in your near area. It really helps to let them choose what they like especially if you can get samples for free or at least inexpensive. |
Several on YT suggested taste of the wild and we switched to that about a year ago...All four of mine LOVE it! |
I feed a combination of Stella & Chewy's freeze dried raw and Paw Naturaw frozen raw. Gracie refused all kibble as a puppy. I used to cook for her. Now that she she is on these foods I have no problem with her eating and she is healthy as a healthy horse. I had tried all the "natural" grain free kibbles and she hated those, too. If she could just speak my language it wouldn't have taken me so long to figure out what the problem was. |
Our girls have tried TOTW, Royal Canine, and are now currently on Blue Buffalo. I prefer to prepare their foods (cutting out the preservatives and dyes found in most commercial brands) and will home cook their meals as soon as we move into a bigger kitchen. |

To the OP - just wondering if you've tried the brand 'Vets Kitchen'? I home-cook for Harry, but always have this down too - it's the only one he'll eat 'dry'.... Sally + Harry x |

Oh thank you! :) I realise there are places you can, but usually large bags over the net, and if they don't like it.... I would love to just go into our pet shops and try a small bag of Stella + Chewy's (for instance) :) Sally + Harry x |
Yeah I know what you mean, I bought the 2.5kg bag and if he doesn't like this one, I have 13 rats who LOVE everything :D |
Riot's on Wellness small breed and before he was on Wellness just for puppy. The vet also gave us a if Science Diet tartar control and even though it's small bites, they're still pretty big so I use them as treats. He seems to like them but I'm not a big fan of Science Diet and I don't know why so many vets say it's so good. |

When I cooked for Gracie she would refuse the food I made with rice or oatmeal and other grains. Imagine! A dog who knows she is not a vegetarian! |
M babies are both on royal canin. Teddy is in 28 and Piper is on 29. Tried blue buffalo and gave Piper terrible gas. |
bella loves wet food but its the VETS that are putting us off it saying its moslty water and its not good for them too much conflicting advice but im sure bella eating is better than her not eating at all :S x |
Lol, a lot of moisture is GOOD for them. It's why I prefer wet over dry food. If I could afford to feed solely canned, I think I would. |
I feed Link Diamond Naturals small breed puppy...he seems to like it a lot |
chester eats the sundancer from solid gold, he has done great on it, it is their first chicken based food and is grain free with only 30% protein |
