Uses pee pads only 50% of time Ok my Mollie is only using her pee pads 50% of the time. If I give her free run of the house she rarely goes back to it. She uses it in her pen most of the time except when she poops( seems like she doesn't like to poop on it)... I had planned on just using pee pads instead of outdoor training. She is 16 weeks old. Can you guys give me your honest opinion what should I do??? |
Don't give her free run of the house :p While she is young- this is when you need to be hard on her. Don't give in, don't slack! My Peanut is 4 and he still doesn't get free run of the house- |
Don't give free run of the house. When you are home, only let her in the room you are in...that way she is easy to monitor Where do you keep Mollie when you aren't home? You could try an x-pen. THat is how I trained Teddy. We put his potty pad & holder in his xpen. He then learned that was his place to go. He is a little over a year now and while we are at work he is confined to the living room...the only reason he isn't in the x-pen anymore is because he does not have accidents and knows where to potty. My 5 month old is still in her xpen. |

You need to reign in some of that space. My 3 get the bathroom to run in when I'm not home and they can't go with me. When I am home, I use baby gates to keep them from unwanted areas. Although Allie is a year, they are still learning and its up to me to teach them She needs to be caged or put in a pen where she has no choice but to use the pad. |
Your pup is way too young for free run of the house. It takes months of constant training before you can give a young dog free run. Just like if you are training for outside; you wouldn't let your puppy be unattended in the house. When she is outside the exercise pen you need to be with her and keep her in the area of the pee pad. As she gets older and better at using it you can slowly extend her boundaries. |
