Getting another yorkie.. Advice appreciated Hello everyone. My husband and I are Looking to add a yorkie to our home which already has 1 dog that is a Yorkshire terrier and poodle mix. Our dog is 2 and is a very sweet non dominant dog. There is a male yorkie that is 1 year old that we are interested in. We only know that he has been neutered. Can you help me think of what to ask the breeder that will help me determine if this is a good match for our home? Also, any helpful tips you'd share concerning feeding the dogs together, sleeping arrangements, what you did the first time you left them together while you were gone, etc., would also help. I've read many successful posts but there are times when it seems adding another dog was a difficult process. I thought getting some info from those who have done this would aid me tremendously. You can also pm me. Thank you for any help you can give... I'll be taking notes :-). |
Congratulations! If you can have your doggies meet your potential new family first, that would be ideal. If not, ask the breeder to describe the new dog's personality. When I brought my second boy, the boys got along great, but we had some jealousy issues to work out with Max (who is very dominant :D). We put Max first for everything to reassure him that he is still number one. Everything depends on the individual dogs. Some will work beautifully together instantly, others will take time to sort things out. It's just a matter of being observant and knowing when to stand back and when to step in. |
