Poor Payslee. I had to take Payslee to get her routine shots and a yearly exam yesterday. She had to get three shots and it broke my heart. Every time she has to get shots it breaks my heart cause she always yelps, but she done SO great yesterday she only yelped when they stuck her in her leg and it was just a little yelp. After that shot they gave her back to me and she started bleeding really bad so we had to get that taken care of. I asked them about her dry skin/itching so much so they gave me an Omega 3 fatty acid supplement. They said that she was in great health and she is now 6.5 pounds, she doesn't feel like 6.5 pounds and DH says 6 pounds of it is hair.:p She had a bad reaction the last time she had more than one shot so we had to get some Benadryl and give it to her for the next day or two. We also have to get a fecal sample and take it in cause they haven't had one on her in a while. I'm asked them about microchipping her and Kaylee both so I think in the next week or two we will go have that done. She was so sleepy and cuddly last night from the shots/Benadryl. I was so afraid she would have a reaction again but she didn't and slept it off. She's still a little drowsy this morning so she went back to be. Just thought I'd update you all! |
When a dog (or anyone else) bleeds after an injection it means they have hit a blood vessel. If the person is doing a proper injection theyshould pull back on the syringe plunger before injecting to make sure that they are not in a vein. Certain immunizations and medications can be quite harmful if they are injected directly into a vein. Some people fail to do the check to determine the placement of the needle because it is quicker not to. You might want to be wary of letting the same person give anymore injections to your baby. Our vet won't give 3 injections at the same time to a small dog. We make a tech visit appointment a couple of weeks later to get the additional injection. The Omega 3 supplement should help with the skin problem. Some dog foods have the fatty acids in them but others do not. Hope she is back to her happy self today. |
Awww! Poor little thing! It breaks my heart to see them get shots too. I know it is a must, but that little cry just tears me up. I hope Payslee is doing good today and can rest well. |
I very stubbornly (according to my vet, who does like us) will only get one shot/vaccine at a time. Too hard on that little immune system IMHO. But it does cost more for each visit. Cali is three now and I have decided to titer her from here on out, al la Dr. Schultz. :D |
Over vet doesn't charge for the tech visit. Just the charge of the injection (which is more than enough) We go for the check up visit and then come back for the tech visits and the vet tech just gives her the shot. Only the vet can do the rabies injection but the tech can do the others. |
Payslee has mostly been back to her self today. I think the reason she bled was because while they were testing her for heartworms right before they pulled out the needle she jerked but thankfully the tech had a good hold on her and it didn't move too much, but it did move some. I wasn't sure about having 3 shots at once but I know my vet/vet techs wouldn't do anything to harm her. They all love her to pieces there. I will more than likely have separate shots from now on. I'm hoping the Omega 3 will help her skin and help her itching. [: |
what shots did she have, and salmon oil is what chester gets it does help the itches |
She had her Rabies shot, Parvo combination shot and then the shot they used to check for heartworms. I'm not sure if the rest of you know this or not, but my vet said that they cannot treat heartworms right now if they already get it because the medicine is on back order, they can only give them a preventative to keep them from getting it. She said if they get it they can only make them feel comfortable. I thought that was crazy! Which is why I went for the heartworm preventative and the shot. |
There are two good sources of OMEGA 3 fatty acids. Salmon oil and Flaxseed oil. Two of my dogs CAN NOT have fish protein and are given a food with Flaxseed oil in it. |
