DNA kits I am curious to know what mix my new puppy is..I was told full blooded but I am in doubt as he looks like he has some chihuahua in him. Has anyone used the DNA kits you can order online?..My vet told me it would probably be easier and cheaper if I went that route..I am mainly doing this for peace of mind. |

I will soon let you know. I too was wondering what Gizmo was. I knew he was a mix but of what. We used a kit we got online for mixed breeds. The results should be back anyday. It was extremely easy to use. |
I'm curious about it as well and was going to order one. Not for my yorkie but for my Affen-huahua ;) Let me know how it goes! |

We brought it thru Amazon. |
I used the Wisdom Panel, which confirmed the Linage documentation. They provide a nice certificate too... http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...neakersDNA.jpg |

Thanks |
My Vivi was a stray and I always wanted to know her breed(s). So, my DH gave me a DNA kit for my birthday a few years ago. Found out she was all Min Pin, with no Chihuahua, which surprised me. They are fun when you want to know something like that. :) |
hmmmmm...this sounds interesting. we bought our chihuahua from a lady in Arkansas. no she wasn't a breeder....just dumb and so were we. lol. The vet and lady said Chihuahua/Pekingese AKA pik-a-chu LOL. Lady had the pekingese but dad was unknown It would be interesting to see what he really is |
wisdom panel....... |
Drum Roll .................... The results are in !!!!!!!! I am sad to say Gizmo is not a Yorkie :(((( Please let me stay anyways????? He is a Chinese Crested Mix crossed with a Rat Terrier. The other breeds found in his DNA are as follows: Chihuahua 17.79% Miniature Schnauzer 8.71% Akita 3.23% Border Terrier 2.69% Dachshund 1.99% Although Gizmo is not a Yorkie we love him so much and he is the perfect dog for us. |

Shipped off my Wisdom Panel mixed dog DNA kit yesterday and I cannot wait until I get back the results. I did this for my mixed dog, ChiChi. I've always wondered what that midget had in him. I'll post the results and his picture when I get it back. Says about 3 weeks turn around. Can't wait!! |
Awe he is still adorable and of course you can stay. |
I got my wisdom panel results back for my mixed dog, ChiChi. I was off on the other mix he had in him. So he is Chihuahua full bred on one side (which I knew) but he is a mini poodle mix on the other. The Mix is 36.25% mini poodle, 20.56% Norwegian Buhund, 19.54% Glen of Imaal Terrier (which is supposedly the rarest breed) 11.23% Maltese, 8.36% Dachsund and 4.06% Neapolitan Mastiff which made me giggle! What an interesting thing to learn! Thanks for the heads up on the DNA kit, it's good to know! |

Wow. They can even tell you the percentages? I wonder how far back in the family line they can go? |
2 Attachment(s) Here is a little info from the file This is on the first page which shows the 2 sides: The Wisdom Panel® Insights™ computer algorithm performed over seven million calculations using 11 different models (from a single breed to complex combinations of breeds) to predict the most likely combination of pure and mixed breed dogs in the last 3 ancestral generations that best fit the DNA marker pattern observed in Chichi. The ancestry chart depicting the best statistical result of this analysis is shown in the picture below. This is from the second page which shows you the percent of each breed from the mixed side; We have identified for you the 5 next best breed matches which appeared in the analysis of your dog's DNA. One or more of these breeds could have contributed to the genetic makeup of the ancestors indicated by the mixed breed icon. The breeds are listed by the relative strength of each result in our analysis with the most likely at the top of the list. There could also be a breed or breeds present in the mixed breed component that we cannot detect with our current database of purebred dogs. I've attached some pics of the PDF :) The chicken scratch on the paper is from me figuring percents ;) |
A lot of these dna things are a big joke lol. The only ones that are the most accurate are the blood tests from the vet. I've heard of people sending some who KNOW what the mix is and getting back crazy results. |
I can honestly say I'm a true skeptic. ChiChi has very typical terrier hair and I was told mom was a Chihuahua and dad was an affenpinscher mix. So, with that being said....I'm going to do 3 more test including one from the vet. Stand by! :) |
Well there are a lot of dna tests done on people that are done with just a swab of the mouth. They are considered quite accurate. DNA can also be gotten from a hair. I think the true value of the test would be told by how reputable the company is. |
