Dog smell? I know that we, as the humans that live with and adore our furbabies, have gotten use to their particular smell. We all have one, that much I know. :) But have any of you ever gotten comments from outsiders that your home/car smells like "dirty dog"? Just wondering. :) |

I'm paranoid about this...I don't want to be one of those people oblivious to it. I don't want people to walk in my house and immediately be like...oh..you have a dog! I know people like that, where their house, their car, their clothes...smell like dirty dog. Admittedly, it's people with large breeds that hardly ever get bathed. I'm not a clean freak, but I do clean regularly. Close friends & family know this is a worry of mine and I'm confident that if they honestly thought things smelled funky at all, that they would tell me. |

I am paranoid about this too. My sister said once my house smelled like hamsters.???? I have 5 or so of the plug in warmers from bath & body, so it covers any smell :) but I only smell allie after she's been outside, then it goes away. I will ask anyone who comes over, does my house smell? ;) I dare them to say yes, cause all I smell is warm vanilla cookie, cranberry chutney, peppermint, i guess its like walking into Yankee candle!! |

My mom has an in home business. Our apt is open to her clients all morning until 10 am. Kaji is confined safely in my room at that time. (scared of people and I really don't want anyone thinking I have something valuable they could steal) In 2 years we've been living here, no one has ever made a comment about our house smelling "doggy." In fact, one of my mom's close friends complimented us because our home smelled fresh and not like "dirty dog" at all. |

I have asked both my sister's and sister's in law as well as one of my closest friends and they have all told me no it doesn't smell at all. They say if they didn't know me and came to my house they would never know I had dog's. |
There are definitely indicators that dogs live here -- like bowls and beds and toys galore -- but I hope the doggie smell isn't one of them! I don't think my pups are stinkers, but they do get baths regularly and all of their belongings get washed. :p I notice the doggie smell in people's homes much more when they have big dogs. I don't think my apartment has a doggie smell, but maybe I'm immune. I think someone (friends, family) would have commented on it before. |
Callie is pretty clean and we clean her stuff regularly and we have never gotten that. Now when I go to my moms house who has three dogs two of them being beagles who don't get bathed that often there is a small smell but not to bad because she washes there bedding and stuff regularly. |
hmmm, can't say that anyone has said anything but I know when I had cats you could tell. I would try and take care of the box and even had the automatic one and I could still smell it. I cannot smell the dogs myself, but no one has ever mentioned anything. |
No my do get a dog smell but its not as bad as Ive smelled on other bigger dogs I dont know if its just because they are small or what, I try to keep them clean too so that could be it. |
I think a lot of people are polite so they don't say anything. I try to keep my dog washed weekly and change his bedding regularly. Problem is I have pee pads so I know they smell but I can get used to them too. I usually sprinkle baking soda on them and change them regularly... I think it's a good idea to have someone you trust who's close to give you their honest opinion. |
I try to keep my dog washed and sprayed. Someone once commented that you couldn't tell we had a dog in the house until you hear her barking. I hate the doggy smell. I spay her when she comes in from outside if I pick up the doggy scent. |
It's not the dog smell that bothers me, it's the pee smell. Having Jimmy peeing randomly on the only rug in the house is really starting to irk me! I'm about to rip the rug out of my bedroom sooner than I planned on (putting hardwood down). I'd rather walk on cold cement than smell that smell....:( He is the hardest dog I\'ve ever had to potty train.... I\'m sure if I had more people over they would totally notice the smell. The only part of the house that doesn\'t smell is the guest bedroom and the addition off the guest room. This is the part of the house that I have shut off from the dog. Love my Jimmy but not in love with the peeing in the house. I take him out constantly and he can be out for an hour then come inside and pee. Even if he pee\'d outside. Maybe a fixing will help. Other than that the dogs don\'t really smell like "dog". |
The only comments I have ever got about KS is how good she smells. LOL. The shampoo/conditioner we use smells wonderful and everyone always comments on how wonderful she smells and how she doesn\'t smell like a dog. We bathe her at least once a week and we do woo woo/booty baths after each visit to the potty pad so she stays in tip top shape. Sometimes near the end of the week she might smell a little like tee tee down there, but it never bothers us. We always notice and give her a bath right then. But as for her own puppy scent, I just love it. I could smell her all day. Weird, I know, but she just smells so good. I love when she has the \'Frito Feet\'! Tee hee! |
