She Rings The Bell :D I 'm so very proud of Ladybug!! I've had her since September and she has always done an excellent job going on the wee pads. I've always wanted her to go outside but wouldn't take her before having all of her shots, then I was afraid she'd eat racoon poo, or that she was just too little to be outside. I was a stressed out first time yorkie mama :(. At the first of the year I said she HAS to go outside!! So I bought some bells to hang on the back door. Every time she ate or drank, I would ring the bell and tell her to go potty then open the door. I started this on Sunday morning January 8th. By that evening she caught on!! She had one accident in the house the next day, but has been going potty outside ever since! I'm so proud of her and how easy it was. I stressed myself for nothing. I've been lucky that I haven't had potty training issues with my baby girl! |
Yay! That is great! |
Mine is trained to bells, too. It's wonderful, isn't it? They enjoy going outside and that makes it easier. I'm so glad it has worked out well for you. You should be very proud of her!:) |
So happy for you, I have the bells too but still taxing to the door since Prissy is just a little over 4 months old. Ya gotta love the little boogers. |
I think this is the most adorable thing I had ever heard of! Training these little angels to ring bells hanging from the door to go outside to potty! One of my new adoptive parents rewarded their little baby with a green bean for doing it correctly.....after about 3 weeks, one day, they happened to notice she was going outside to potty #1 way too much. It was a real cause for concern for these new Yorkie owners, until they realized Tinkerbell was "fibbing" just to get the green bean reward!.....Run to door, ring the bell, go outside and squat, run in circles with excitement as mommy and daddy clap and lavish with praise, race to the kitchen for green bean reward, go play for 15-30 minutes, repeat process! I just adore these babies!!!! |

Yeah Brandi has done the same thing :D:D:D:D:D. Brandi did the whole fake pee thing to just to get a treat. Boy did my baby outsmart me. She had me all excited that I was training her correctly only to find out that she was faking it. Once I realized that she was associating the squatting with getting a treat, I changed my technique a little bit. |
Congrats! That is awesome!!!!!! I would love to train Ginger to do this! She's 3 years old though. I think it may be too late? |

Lola has been bell trained for 6 months or more, I made them myself, by tying a bunch of jingle bells to the end of a ribbon. What is nice is when we travel I bring a spare one and she picks right up on it. BUT as a few others said between the treat and just wanting to go outside she has started ringing the bell every 15 min. So now if she starts ringing just to go outside, I loop them over so she can't get to it for a while. She can go 4 hours or longer so it's not a concern like when they are training. We do not have a fence, so I keep a harness attached to a long tie out and I put her out on that and then watch from inside the house, this way I know when she went. In warmer weather I will often go out with her, this way she know's it business out there not play time. They are crafty little buggers and figure things out pretty quickly. |
LOL, Prissy will fake pee in really cold weather to get an extra treat...they are way too smart. |
