It's too cold to pee pee I have had a completely potty trained yorkie for several months now....until yesterday...when it started to rain...and get very windy... She WILL NOT potty outside. Period. She is putting her foot down. She sits at my feet and looks at me like "I'll go if you go." Seriously, I have to just laugh at her. Today I kept her gated in the kitchen with me so she couldn't slip away and pee pee on the carpet. She went hours and hours without going potty and several attempts of us getting soaken wet outside. She finally went after the rain died down. We have one of those outside dog pens but don't have a tarp on the top of it right now. I'm going to make my husband get one at the store tomorrow, maybe she will do better if we have that. How do yorkies that live in the snow handle this? We live in California and cold to us is 50 degrees. She was dressed in a nice warm sweater and still shivered like you wouldn't believe. I guess this is a good reason to train to potty pads huh? |
Poor cold baby! I live in Texas and it doesn't get too cold down here either....but never-the-less it is cold to me....so it's definately too cold for my baby. We are training with puppy pads......training for outside will have to wait until summer :D |
haha I shouldn't be laughing but that is cute! What a little princess you have ;) That's why I have potty pads, Hallie refuses to go out in the cold, rain or snow or wind. Guess we just have girly girls! |
Thank goodness I live in Arizona where it doesn't rain much because my gang won't go out in the rain either....they hate it.....so I go into the attached garage with them and then clean up. :) |
We live in Michigan! When Yoda first came home it was during a snow storm. He is pad trained. He will go outside too but I am so glad that we decided to keep up with the pad training. It makes it so much easier during the cold and rainy months. He hates going out in the rain, but the crazy lil guy will go out and play in the snow as long as its not snowing down on him :p |
I have the same problem with mine if it is raining outside. So far, espically(sp) today with his new sweater he doesn't really mind the wind, etc. as long as he's not out there for to long, but as for rain if he could talk, I probably would not want to hear what he was saying about it! |
Now you know why I had Muffin trained to use pee pads in the attached garage and I have now trained Kacee to go out there. We never, ever go outside in bad weather or at night. We hit the garage! :D |
We live in NJ and Annie is pad trained... But when we go traveling for some reason she won't go on the pad. It is just as easy to take her outside... Unfortunately over thanksgiving we went to Cleveland where it snowed. Annie would have none of it... She would just look at me like are you crazy or is this a new treat that I get to eat... But no potty... She would run away and pee on the carpet and I would have to chase after her and clean it up before my aunt saw it and freaked out.... By the end of the weekend the snow melted and all was right with the world and Annie could go on the grass like normal  |
I took Stew out this morning when we woke up. There was a good amount of snow on the ground - our first snow that actually stuck and stayed. He looked at me like, "hey lady, you must've lost your damn mind". He ran around in a small circle, then ran inside the house and peed on a newspaper I had sitting next to the kitchen table  |
I couldn't get her to pee outside again so I decided it's diaper time. Not two minutes after putting it on her, she squatted and peed right in front of me! And like it was nothing! I have been bragging about what a well potty trained dog I have to everyone! that'll teach me LOL |
I'm always amazed, but Eddie would pee outside in a blizzard. He's never used pee pads. Na na na na na na! |

Ya just jinxed yourself, Eddie's Dad :D LOL.... I admit to taking Trace out in the rain, while I HOLD an umbrella. Hmmmmm, who has whom trained here? :animal36 |
I'm about 100 miles South of the Canadian border in Northern MN (I know - not quite Alaska Eddie's Dad ;) ) but Maddie seems to love the snow. It was 6 degrees this morning and Maddie was romping through the snow banks after she went potty. The first time it snowed here - she looked at me, then the snow, then me again like I was crazy. I just put my foot down and so far so good! |
lol...my son had a drs appt this morning, and I mentioned Daisy in conversation and she had a yorkie to! I asked her how easy it was for her to potty train, and the cold weather and all, and she said that she use to live in an apartment on the 3rd floor, and instead of going up and down stairs all the time, they got a huge flat pan of zsome sort, and put a piece of sod on it and put it somewhere..and the dog would mess on that!! Cool idea I thought! |
Mine wont go out if its raining but they will go out if its snowing. |
I live in Northern Ontario, Canada. Baby, it's cold outside. Today, it is minus 10 celcius. Actually this is not bad. My baby adjusted very well to the temp. This will be his first winter. We will see what happens when it is minus 30 or 40 celcuis outside. |
Today in NYC is windy and cold, Gucci didnt go pee pee at all. She normaly uses the pee pads, but i take her out sometimes and she will do pee pee. But today she was just pulling me back to the apt. As soon she saw our bldg she got so happy, and ran to the door. As soon we came in she ran to my bed and snuggle under my blanket, she didnt even gave me a chance to take her sweater off. I guess Gucci doesnt like the cold either. |

I thought that it was just Casper being wayyyyyyyyyyyyy to spoiled but he would not go potty yesterday when it was raining real bad. This morning when i got up for work he didn't want to go outside either and was jumping and scratching and barking when i put him outside. I live in Califonia so it's not that cold and he was wearing a jacket. Well anyways i made him stay out there while i took a shower because he was doing so well no accidents or anything and then when it started raining he refused to go out side and had a poo accident! long story short he got into a puddle and was a mess when he came in. (AH... THE JOYS OF PET OWNING) =) |
Sammie and Gracie do not potty in the rain or snow either. They like to play in the snow but not do their business. We have a potty pad that they are both trained to and they do very well with it. It has become a lifesaver since we really don't have to take them out except to play and for walks. Every time we had to go out, we had to get coats on ourselves, the dogs, and it was a real pain. Now they just go on their potty pad and we never worry about having to take them out. We love it!!!!! By the way, they will still go potty outside - they did not unlearn that just because we gave them a potty pad. |
