Dog thefts are up 49 percent!!! AOL.com Video - Dog Thefts Up 49 Percent The American Kennel Club says that dog thefts are up 49 percent from 2008, Yorkies and Pomeranians being on top of the list. Yikes!! |
Yes, really scary. What scares me more is when i go to the store and walk through the parking lot and see tiny yorkies, chihuahuas, etc .. Left in cars alone... Of course i don't like to see that with any dog but the tiny ones are more at risk... |
I especially don't have a yorkie magnet on my car because I'm afraid that if im in my driveway someone will know there are yorkies inside my house!!:( I don't take them out as often as I used to. I get too nervous that someone will steal them from me. I mean I go to petco with them once in a while but that's it. |
That is so scary. We have shut off our doggie door because I don't want them running in and out espically if we are not there. Dh put a doggie door going into our garage from the laundry room and we put papers down for them to potty on and I just feel safer that way. Between the thiefs and the hawks its scary to let them out without staying right with them. |

Oh my! That is scary! |
Scary. When I was visiting my parents they were shopping inside a store and I was sitting outside with Buster as he was not allowed in. I was sitting on a bench to the side when a group of late teens / early twenty's drove by. They stopped the car and a few got out and came over to me an started asking questions about Buster but mostly asking how much I paid for him and commenting on how much Yorkies cost all while glancing back and forth to the car which was sitting there idling. I was really spooked because it was not that is a cute dog kind of conversation, so I told them I did not pay much for him because he had a lot of health issues. I quickly said OH there is my brother and got up and put Buster in his carrier and ran into the store. Security stopped me inside the store but I told them I was afraid my purse was going to get snatched so they let me stay at the entrance until my parents were done. The group got back into the car and drove away. Maybe it was nothing but it was really scary at the time. |

That is extremely scary. I first of all will never ever leave my pup alone in the car. Its bad enough when I walk down the street and random people approach me saying " Oh those are expensive dogs" and repeats it like two times. :/ YES the world all knows yorkies are expensive, whats the point on asking me and approaching me and my pup? Ah scary! Everybody please be careful!! |

Yes dog thefts are very bad here too, especially small dogs, I have always kept mine close to me, I think it is getting worse with the economy and all. |
We have a big fenced in back yard but it backs up to a walking trail. Ginger makes such a fuss at everyone that goes by so now I don't let her out there by herself. I'm afraid someone will grab her! It's shame that it has to be like that. |
If we take the furbutts with us one of us always stays in the car, if we cant take them in with us...I am ALWAYS fearful of someone taking them...I would go out of my MIND if someone took one of my furbabies! A few years back a doctor at an area hospital brought her yorkie with her...she left her in the car IN a parking garage...ran into the hospital for a bit and when she came out her yorkie was gone! ...I would love to have little yorkie signs in my gardens but will not in fear someone would break in and take them. we do have an alarm...but, by the time the police got here they would be long gone... |
Oh my! This is awful. I knew things were bad, but this is way worse than that... :( |

I was just on Costco and this woman comes to the return counter with a small doggie stroller with 3 shih tsu looking dogs in there. I mean they were kind of big and they were squished in there. Anyway she wanted to bring them in and the guy said no but he told her she could leave them by the entrance door with the guy who checks your membership card. So she pulls the stroller around there and leaves them withe the kid. I just couldn't believe it!! |
This scares me so much! In fact yesterday my son came home from school and for the first time I forgot to kennel Roscoe before they came home(he gets ecited and runs out the door to try to go to the bus stop to greet all the kids!) Anyways he got out and I was frantic I took off after him but he went under a gate and I couldn't get him quick enough. Needless to say after many tears and two hours of our whole family looking and knocking on doors and calling animal control to see if anyone called it in a cop showed up. One neighbor had found our dog and called the poilce because she couldn't reach my cell(it was at home while I was running around) and she said he was freaking out and it scared her so she wanted the cop to bring him back home :) I went over there and got him though and he was scared out of his mind! He was hinding under her couch and crying so loudly until he heard my voice. It took me an hr or so to calm him down! I was just crying and thanked her so much for returning him home! I was so scared he was going to be stolen or ran over. Every worst thought was going through my mind. I mean I was truly hysterical. Thank goodness there are still some good people out there though and it was a true lessoned learned that with these little guys you can't take any chances and always have to be on your gaurd. He has never done something like actually run off though. :( |

The very reason I treat my girls like they are human babies! Never outside without me, never left in a car unattended, and I don't even walk them or take them on bike rides unless my husband is with me and I have my pepper spray. It's terrible to have to live in fear that your little dog may get napped. |
Thanks so much for the info but it is scary news. Oh My! I take my baby everywhere with me but you never know :( |
