So Upset. I need ideas. Hi, To make a very long story short. I mopped the floor. I thought it was dry, it wasn't..I slipped and fell flat on my butt (it sounds funny but believe you me it isn't). It felt like I did some serious damage..went to the ER, nothing serious but I cracked my tailbone a good one. The problem: I physically cannot sit on the floor with Bella and Sprout to play with them. I can't even bend over to give her a Cheerio or green bean when she sits or does 'down'. I'm heartbroken about this and I don't know what to do. As it is..I'm typing on the computer standing up because it hurts like heck to sit on anything and it's even worse getting up. Bella looks at me like she's done something wrong and doesn't understand what. Sprout is acting like a baby without a rattle. My husband IS helping, but they want their skinmom. The severe pain I can deal with. Not being able to interact with my dogs I can't. The doctor said it may take up to a year to feel better??? There's nothing they can do except meds. I really need help. I need suggestions on how to play with Bella and Sprout. If they were labs or shepherds or some other large breed it wouldn't be an issue...but they are very small (as all of you already know). I can't bend over, squat, sit on the floor (it almost makes me cry just to sit on the couch). I need playtime ideas, and fast....please?:(:( |
After knee surgery I slipped and fell and cracked my tailbone. It hurts like heck. It will just take time and thats all you can do. Even sitting on something soft didn't help. Laying down on my side was the only way I could get comfortable. Feel for you, believe me, I know how bad it hurts. |
OOOOOOH OUCH ! I don't suppose there is a possibility that you could soak in the tub in epsom salts ? If you could it will help take a lot of swelling out. I will be Praying for you to have a speedy recovery. |
They have donut style cushions (hole in middle) in medical supply places. Or if you can find a child's innertube, that might help. Sounds painful. :( |
Yikes!!! I am so sorry!!!!! Can you lay down? Could you lay on the bed or couch and let them cuddle with you? Your DH could put them up there and take them down after some cuddling time. I hope you have a speedy recovery! |
I'm so sorry. That sounds so painful. I do remember a girl that slipped on the ice and cracked her tb, but she was ok in no time. I hope that makes you feel better. I have seen some cushions similar to what they are talking about and the one's I've seen were inflatable. Maybe you could tie some toys onto a rope and play with them that way for awhile. I really can't think of anything else at this time. Maybe you could lay on your side and play with them as someone else suggested. I don't know if you could get up from the floor though. You may have to stick to the bed if you're going to try that. Let us know how you're doing and how things go with the doggies. |
When lying on your side, it helps to put a pillow between your knees. That will reduce your discomfort. |
Ugh, I am so sorry. :( Sounds painful. I had a friend who broke her tailbone and it was very painful. As far as giving the pups treats, I always throw treats at Jackson and he catches them lol, maybe you could work on that with yours. :) |
That is awful. Did you fall on tile floor? I did the same thing after we built our house. I know the pain. :( Believe it or not, the really bad pain will go away in about a week. Certain things will flair it up but you should be able to function a little better. You will still hurt but nothing like you will this week. Did they give you anything to take? I am so sorry. As far as playing with your babies. Do they like rope toys or anything? I was thinking you could stand and hold the rope toy and let them try to grab it? I don't know just a suggestion. Prayers for a speedy recovery. Hugs to you and your furbabies. |
Ouchies! I have a herniated disc in my lower back and although it is bothersome at times, I can't even imagine the pain you must be going through. As far as sitting - I agree with the OP, try finding a "donut" pillow as those really do help take the pressure off the tailbone. As far as playing with your babies.... Jack has a stuffed penguin with a squeaker in it (we loving named him "Chilly" as in "Chilly Willy the Penguin") Jack will play in bed with us. If I am laying on my side of the bed, I will toss Chilly into the air and Jack will catch him, shake him back and forth like terriers do and then bring him to me so we can start the process over again. The other thing we will do in bed, we have a little blanket for Jack and sometimes I will move my hand underneath the blanket. He thinks its an animal or something and tries to attack it. I know its probably not the best thing to teach him, but it does help get rid of some his pent up energy. Here's wishing you a speedy recovery! |
give it a few days and then experiment with different positions, laying on you side will probably be the best, lay sideways on the couch and drop their treats beneath you, they will think it's weird but before you know it the well adjust. Best wishes for a speed recovery. I am not a dr but I heart my tailbone before and year seems pretty long. |
I fractured my tailbone while on vacation. I totally understand. It took 6 weeks to quit hurting. Not sure why you were told a year. I sat on a blow up neck pillow that I have for flying. It was the only way I could sit down. |
Your babies love you like you do them, and they will love playing with you any way that they can. I truly hope that you feel better and that you are free from pain very soon. I did a little research, and the first link talks about the kinds of pillows that might be helpful for you, and the second one shows a variety of pillow types. Please take care of yourself, and get well soon. CUSHION for TAILBONE PAIN (coccyx pain) Search results for "coccyx" in AllegroMedical.com |
My sincerest, heart felt sympathies go out to you, dear!! As you have learned by now, every single muscle in your body is directly attached to your tail bone!!! You can't even SMILE without it hurting!! The only position I could tolerate was on my side, with a pillow between my legs/knees, so there was no ''pulling'' on my tailbone!!! Good luck, and wishing you a very quick resolution of the pain....been there, done that, dont ever want to do it again!!! |
Oh my, it sounds like you're in some awful pain there :-( I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers, hopefully it doesn't take that long to recover. I know you said bending over hurts you, but what if you bent over to get on your side or lay on your back or stomach? I know you have to bend to get in that position, but maybe the pain would stop once you got INTO that position? I don't know if the doughnut thing would help or not, I mean, you still have the weight of your upper body coming down on your tail bone you'd think. I hope you get better soon. |
Oh wow I'm sorry you fell and I hope it starts feeling better soon. I don't really have any ideas about playing but with treats I have taught Callie to either catch them or go chase them. |
I am sorry about your injury, that sound very uncomfortable. Can you lay on your bed and have your husband boost them up for you? I was thinking cat toys, like the toy on a string with a stick, or a laser pointer. Maybe the tennis ball throwing thing I see people with at the dog park. Feel better soon. Maybe try acupuncture of a good chiropractor to help you get better. The dogs will survive and they have each other, you worry about you first. Animals know when their people are not well. You may just have to cuddle them in bed and they will love that. |
You might consider trying one of the exercise/fitness balls. That way you can adjust how you're sitting by leaning forward a bit balancing on the ball. This should help you reach your pups to be able to play with them. I also fractured my tailbone and it was a miserable experience. I found balancing on the ball leaning forward with my knees apart and my hands braced on my knees was the most comfortable for me. Good luck! |
2 Attachment(s) Hi, The Cloud 9 bed that I ordered came today. The furkids adore it...and won't share it, so I'm ordering another one this week. It is doing a great job of keeping them occupied. They spend their time shoving the other one off of it. I hope it keeps occupying them long enough for me to heal up. I'm able to throw the ball and other toys for them while laying sideways and my husband hands it back to me. THANK YOU for the suggestion about the pillow between my legs..that helps a LOT. I came here asking for doggy help and got help for me too. :') Why they said it could take a year I have no idea. They didn't say it would..they said it could. I also have troch-bursitis in my hips (had that before) and that could be a reason...I didn't even ask. In any case...thanks for all the suggestions! I'll try all of them. :'') I just love this community. Sorry for not putting this in off topic. going back to the couch now. Thanks a million YTers |

I hope you feel better soon! Until then tossing them treats is fun-they will love it. Getting a long rope for tug a war while standing. Putting them on a high counter or table to get some good rubs and kisses while you are standing. Wish I had more suggestions for u! |
Ohhhh, and OUCH!! I did that very same thing a few years ago.... So, I know how painful it is! It does take a long time to heal...but the pain isn't constant for that long. You are in the worst part right now. From my memory the first week was the worst- then you just have to be careful how and what you sit on. That's what takes the longest to recover from....you will sit down and if the chair hits you funny it hurts. I am sorry I can't give you a magic quick fix! Just take it easy and let your body heal. |

So glad your pups love it. |

Sorry OP. I don't have any ideas for you. Feel better! I know what that's like. |
Hi, I use a wheelchair for mobility due to injuries I received from a motor vehicle accident when I was 20. So I don't have the option of getting on the floor unassisted with my puppy and that's hard but I've found ways around it. I can lean over and pick him up, his toys, give him treats etc. Since it's painful for you to bend over a cheap toy would be to braid some fleece fabric into a long enough rope and just tie the ends off. Although I can train Charlie by leaning over in my chair, I prefer in the beginning stages to place him on the couch in front of me so we are at the same level. I also sit on my chaise lounge or bed and play with him too. Laying on stomach would work fine too just to have that closeness. And it's easy to lift him from floor onto bed etc from laying position too. I know how hard it is not to be able to get down and wrestle with them though. I'm totally independent...do everything for him, play, bathe, walk him, drive him all over...you name it but it hurts when I see how much fun he has with others on the floor knowing that I can't do that with him on my own. |
I have broken mine twice. No fun. |

To the OP: So sorry you fell! I know it hurts like h*ll, and I didn't even crack mine. Get a donut pillow to sit on to take pressure off the spine and ice it too. Feel better! |
Oh my! Bless your heart! I have no experience with that kind of thing, but I did want to say that I hope you get to feeling better. I will be praying for you. My heart goes out to you!!! |
So sorry i hope you get some fast relief |
Oh my goodness , OUCH, OUCH !!! I am so sorry you ahd this happen. I can pray that you feel better soon. |
