Any Suggestions I find it hard to pull the hair out of my fur baby's ears. I think it hurts. Has anyone got any suggestions as to how to help. I have though about using human nose/ear clippers. Has anyone ever tired this? |
The first time Kiko needed hers done, the vet did it. I just copied what he did the next time it needed to be done. Have you seen the vet or maybe a groomer pluck the hair before? Seeing how they do it may help. |
I just read about how to do it on the Internet. The groomer kinda showed me how after it was done. So I have not seen it being done. |
I havent heard of this before, what happens then, Susie just need her hair clipped around her eyes, she doesnt have any growing in her eyes?? |
If you use good tweezers it usually isn't a problem at all. None of mine seem to care at all. Just have to be careful it is only hair your grabbing. |
I've always used hemostats. I haven't had to do this with Tink yet. But, I did it many times when I was working as a vet tech. The hair in the ears doesn't have the same deep roots like hair elsewhere so dogs don't feel much discomfort. In my experience, the dogs didn't mind the hair pulling...they hated having to hold still! LOL |
I've never even done it. Unless the groomer had without my knowledge; but I groom Baby now. |
Pulling the ear hair is important because it can hold on to moisture and lead to an ear infection. I use ear powder and hemostats (for the hair I cannot get with my fingers). I found it very helpful to watch a few youtube videos on it before doing it. Neither Callie nor Sammy acts like it bothers them. Sammy grows very little hair in his ears but Callie grows ear hair like crazy lol. |

I pull it off my cotton coat yorkie's ears, she has so much hair , is very important to pull her ear hair to prevent infections due to retained humidity. she had only one infection in her 4 years of life because the vet told me to never let the hair on her ears grow too long.. I also clean her ears regularly.. hugs |
Thanks for all the comments. I appreciate it. |
hello! i know my sister says she wets a Q-tip..and just a few pieces at a time..she puts it in the hair swirls it a couple times than pulls it out..she says its easy and it works! :) |
Mine have never had but a tiny bit of hair in their ears. One thing I did always do, too, was to hold the hair dryer away and dry the ear canals after baths to help prevent any infections. I keep the ear powder, too, but have seldom used it. |
I do the same as YorkieUSA - hold the hair dryer by Jack's ears to make sure they are dry after a bath. I also use a Q-tip just on the outer part of his ear that I can see. I never put the Q-tip down into the canal as I don't want to damage his ear drums. I have never plucked his ears and just keep an eye on him to make sure his ears are good and dry after bathing - he will be 3 years old in May and he has never had an ear infection. |
My yorkie hasnt needed the hair pulled out. However one of my poodles ear hair grows so fast and there is always a ton of it. His ear hair comes out very easy, the other poodles ear hair is more wire like and it doesnt pull out easily so I cut his out,he will be still. Maybe each dogs ears are different. Some need it and some dont. |
