Help!!!! I have a 1 1/2 year old male Yorkie named Bentley. He's normally a calm loving dog but here within the last almost month he's been crying at me for no reason. The only thing I can think of is my husband just recently left for training for the military and Bentley has been going to the door or sliding glass door just sitting there crying. He's been more needy than usual, he comes and sits in front of me and will just wine and shake. I know these dogs are more anxious than most dogs but I dont know what to do?!?! I take him on other doggie play dates, we go for walks and I even play with him often. I feel so bad because he's constantly pacing the house just looking around, he's currently at the front door crying and I don't know what to do! It almost breaks my heart :( I thought since its been a few weeks since my husband left that he would just forget him. Any others have issues with their yorkie doing this? Please help, any advice is much appeciated!! Thank you :) |

The she finally got used to him being gone alot. |
Im pretty sure he know that your hubby is gone and just misses him. If you have an article of your husbands clothing that hasn't been washed and you can stand the possibility of it being destroyed or damaged. (a sock, tshirt, anything) or take something and spray some of your husband favorite Cologne on it and put it in his doggie bed with him. Your husband scent may calm him down some. Anxiety can be a very hard think on them. |
ZoE acts like that after my kids have been home for a weekend (or break) and then go back to college. She looks for them for days after they leave. By the time ZoE seems to forget about them and not look for them anymore, one or both kids come home again. My daughter will be home this coming weekend, so next week, we'll be going through it again. |
Maybe he's 'grieving' for his daddy. He knows he's gone but doesn't understand, and possibly fears he's gone forever. I know he's at training, but is there a way for your hubby to talk to him on the phone? Maybe even a recording of his voice would help...a video or something..so he can hear or maybe see him again. Webcam would be great if possible. If he could hear his voice, he might figure out he's just 'missing' from his Yorkie action. :) Just a thought... I hope everything works out...I hate to think of him feeling so forlorn...and you as well! Take care! |

We went to my parents' for Christmas vacation, and when it was time for my husband to get back home for work, we decided I would stay at my parent's with Bella for an extra week, and he would go back home with Sprout (Sprout is a Daddy's boy or so I thought). The whole time we were apart, my husband said that Sprout would dart out the door when he came home from work, and sit on the ground in front of the passenger side of the car waiting for me to get out, and only when my husband came and got him would he stop. He gave Sprout one of my sweatshirts to cuddle with and that DID seem to appease him until I came home. Like I said before, I highly recommend it. |
I'm sure Bently is missing your dh and just let your dh know that we appreciate everything he has done for our country. Also we appreciate you for the sacrifices you make for us too. Just give lots of lovens. Thanks again, I have a heavy heart just knowing how many have sacrificed for our country... |
