Brought Joel home! We got Joel yesterday, and he got car sick and threw up 4 times in the car. And this morning he threw up twice just a tiny bit. So i'm wondering how to get him to eat and drink when he's not feeling good and how long should he be feeling sick, like if I keep puting food in his face he'll kinda eat. So how long should we wait until we should force him to drink or something. He has eventually been eating and drinking He sleeps most the time obviously. And when I put him out to the bathroom he just comes torward me and is too cold to go to the bathroom. So any advice on that would be helpful. |
You should take him in for a vet check asap. He is sick. You may want to pad train him as cold as it is there. Welcome to YT.:) |
joel I think it was from the car ride. Hes eating and drinking more and has already been playing with his toys, but were still taking him to the vets for his checkup. :D |

joel Oh hes definetly his normal self today and hes realy good friends with Rosco(175 pound akita)Rosco is already scared of him lol. And I was wondering if its normal for him to shiver when I put him in the play pen, im guessing hes just being scared and wants me to hold him, so I should ignore him? I find I have to make myself put him down lol |

Yea i'll def. mention the shivering thing at his checkup, but he only does it wen hes in the playpen, and wen hes out of it playing he wont do it |
How old is Joel? I don't think it's been mentioned. If he's very young and small, he could be going a bit hypoglycemic, it's really common in tiny young Yorkies. Keep some Nutrical on hand. Also, I would get him a coat for sure, to keep him warm. Check out AlaskaYorkie (YT member) and his dogs - they live in Alaska too and have, like, the greatest life EVER. ;) I am sure Mike would help you with raising Yorkies in AK. |
He's 8 wks:D. And i got 4 hours of sleep because of him,lol. And he does have a sweater, I'll need to get him a coat. |

Is the floor in the playpen cold, by any chance? If so, you might want to find a way to warm it up. He might be getting a chill through his feet. At 8 weeks, he will still need to have a warm space. He would normally still be snuggling pretty close to dam and litter mates. You might also look into heating the space he occupies...just for him. Also, check to make sure it is not drafty. Yea, maybe the floor is cold,the floor is linolium stuff so thats probably why. Thanks :D |
Welcome!! Your baby is so cute, I saw the pics you posted in other thread :) I just got my Strudel last Monday and he shivered a lot then too. He is perfectly fine now with me, but still shakes a little with my roommate and new people he meets. He also shakes when he's outside sometimes - its not that cold here (60's) it's from nervousness/unsureness. Also the first day he was here he didn't want to eat much either. So I think a lot of what you are experiencing is normal and as he gets acclimated he will do these things less and less. I took Strudel to see his vet that first day. That is super important and helps you too because you can ask the vet any question you have :) |
