eating grass hi.. i have only had my yorkie since november last year...she is 6 years old...the other owners did'nt treat her 2 good...but she is the best little friend i could ask for....i worry as she eats grass at least once a week and is then sick....she is full of energey and does not seem ill..anyone else have this happen?..she has only done this the past 3 weeks....will be gratefull of any help... i did hear it could be a habet or coming into season as i don't know when she is due....thanks for any help...:) |
I have always heard they eat grass when they have an upset tummy. But it could just be an ole wives tale. :p |
It could be a phase but a breakable habit nonetheless. I would monitor her though. Wouldn't want her to ingest anything harmful and fall ill to it. |
all of mine eat grass and they do it daily...every time i let them out...so i dunno... |

Both my dogs (yorkie and schnoodle) have eaten grass from time to time mind you they both LOVE veggies :) |

eating grass Dogs and cats both will eat grass. It is actually good for them and they get vitamins from it. The only problem is the grass that is best for them is not always what is available. The reason they get sick after eating the grass is because of the type of grass it is, most grass in our yards is Serrated and that is the reason they throw it back up. Get some rye grass seeds and plant it in a pot. Take a pair of scissors and clip off some of the grass and they will eat it like crazy and will not make them sick like the johnson grass that is on our lawns or the Kentucky Fescuse. Wheat grass, rye grass can be mixed and the blades are not serrated and they can digest it much easier. |
eating grass The only reason I know this is because a friend of mine makes these pots of "grass" for pets and sells them. She has done a lot of research and has quite a bit of information on it. It was quite intersting to hear about it and I always thought the same thing they age grass because they needed to get sick. Boy was I wrong. |
Yes, I think it depends. Jackson loves to graze on grass, especially in the spring. Sometimes he even does it as sort of a nervous habit, it's very odd? He usually only goes crazy eating grass after a heavy amount of running at my dads house, where things are very high energy, lots of noises (four wheelers, him running along the fence at full-speed, etc) and then when I walk into the fence area with him, he begins chowing down... it's strange, LOL. But yeah, the few times he was actually having an upset stomach, he did go outside and eat grass and make himself throw up. But I can tell a difference between a "I'm sick and eating grass" or "omgzzz i'm so hyper and gonna chow down on this yummy green stuff!" |
