A easily chewable kibble.....? I know this may not make any sense...I know kibble is dry food and therefore going to be more difficult to chew. But Lil Bit is having a hard time chewing the dry food I am giving her....she wants it....but takes forever to chew one little tiny piece.... She is 4 months old and weighed 1 # 15 oz today.....I'm not sure if she is loosing teeth and has not yet replaced them...I am feeding her (& the chi) Purina Pro Plan...with really small kibble.....the chihuahua never had any problems...(but then again she has 2 rows of teeth!!! Kept every one of her puppy teeth.....inside her mouth looks like a scene out of "Jaws"!) Does anyone know of a dry kibble that is possibly smaller or even something easier to chew??? I have tried soaking it...she refuses to touch it. I have tried grinding it in a blender.....makes a powder...she will eat it if I put canned with it. I really do not want her (or the other) on canned food all the time. She is getting a bit picky about eating since I have had to resort to some canned... Any advice??? |
I heard that Royal Canine was good. When My dog was alive she liked it because it had small bites and it was made just for Yorkies. They make Royal Canine just for puppies too although I have never tried it. Good Luck with your baby :aimeeyork |
i use eukanuba petit small bites for dogs...... the kibble is really small and easily chewable |
I use Pro Pac puppy. Very small bites and easy to chew. The 8 week old puppies eat the heck out of it. Have some Royal Canin puppy too but they prefer the Pro Pac and it is half the price. Regarding the extra puppy teeth. You really should get them pulled. They can cause infection and all the teeth to come out. Waya, our male, had extra teeth and I wasn't sure about what to do. Called the vet and they told me I needed to get them out. |
I also use i use eukanuba petit small bites for small dogs PUPPY formula. Our doctor recommended it. It seems to be fine for Spirit. Spirit just lost the 1 remaining babytooth and she is 14 months old. The doctor was going to pull it but we decided to give it some time to fall out. :) |
I also feed Fred Eukanuba Petite Small Bites Puppy Formula. My breeder said thats the best choice to go with and when I woke up this morning, it was all gone! He ate all 20+ kibbles. |
Royal Cannin mini Yorkshire 28 Royal Canin makes this Formula specifically for Yorkies, puppies up to 10 months old and Adults over 10 months old. They are both great! My fur person is a very finicky eater, this is the only kibble he will eat consistently. It's a little pricey compared to other brands, but it is a higher grade dog food. It's got all the ingredients for their specific needs! And it's much smaller for them too, perfect for their size. You can find it @ Petco or online @ wwwroyalcanin.us or 800 592-6687, for more info. The Nutro Natural Choice Ultra Puppy is very small pieces. Carter doesn't have to chomp as much to chew that one. |
I too use the Eukanuba Petite Small Bites Puppy Formula, never had a problem with the boys eating it, once a day, I add a small can of Ceasars canned puppy food or regular to it, mix extremely well, I use a small fork, the boys are of a good weight and eat easily. I have used this since the day I got them and never had a problem with them eating, in fact, sometimes I think Benni lives for food. LOL |

I just tried Royal Canin for Puppys the other day, first night my 3 month old pigged out on it, now he won't hardly try it, but I wanted to get him away from the Pedigree the breeder was feeding him. The kibble in Royal is very small, I hope he'll take a liking to it and then when around 1 year change to Royal Canin for Yorkies. I've also heard that Eukanuba is great food as well, don't know how small the kibble is. It's so hard when you have picky eaters and trying to find something they will enjoy. |
I went to PetSmart today and bought some eukanuba petite...the kibble is a bit smaller, but not much. Lil Bit ate it right up with nothing added to it!!!!! She even gazed up at me as if she wanted more....I gave her another small handfull and she CONTINUED eating.... But tomorrow will tell the whole story..she may hate it by tomorrow. I do know between the 2 I have and a few small cans of puppy food I will keep her eating! Thanks for all the advice and help.....(I did check the royal canin & some of the others mentioned....this may be an option when she gets a bit older or picky all over again!) P.S. Lil Bit has proudly peed and pooped on the pee-pads all day today!!!!!!! she usually averages 1 or 2 misses per day..........once I saw her sniffing around the kitchen rug and I said "Lil Bit, don't you pee on my rug....go pee on the paper"....she wagged her tail and RAN to the paper and peed on it!!!! Then looked back at me like she was sooooo proud! If I would have had a video camera I could have made some $$$$$$ on that one!! |
Just in case the new food doesn't work out....here is what I ended up having to do. Tini eats Pro Plan Small Breed Puppy kibble. I mix it with the Pro Plan Small Breed Canned food. She gets 1/8 cup of kibble and 1/4 can of food two times a day. She used to hate the kibble and this works out well for us. I would like to get her off the canned food, but she is so spoiled, I just can't do it. I just got the canned food buy one get one free at petco, so that helps..... |
