Help...... Our Little Mya is just about 7 years old now and we have noticed about a few months ago everytime we take her out in the car, she starts to shake and wants down on the floor, and goes under the seat in the front drivers side and just stay there till we come to a stop and get out of the car. Has this happend to any of you? and if so what is causing this type of behavior? |
Has she always gone regularly in the car or just occasionally? I have found that if they are regular travelers that they love to go for rides in the car. Does she have a car seat? |
Geena, our only girl Yorkie, never minded going for a ride in the car. One day she became skiddish and cried like crazy in the car. She would shake and shake. It was so unlike her. She has never changed. I have two theories. Either I played the music two loud in the car for her or..She started to look out the front window and the scenery spooked her. Sadly, while Bam loves being a civil passenger in the car, Geena prefers staying home and avoiding the stress. |
Coco has a heart attack because she's excited when we even mention going buh-bye. So in that regard, we don' have that problem. Does she have a car seat? That might make her feel more safe in the car. Maybe she doesn't know where she is? I've heard stories when as soon as dogs get a car seat, and they can see out the front window, they calm down. So maybe try that? Hopefully you'll get more help than I'm giving you. |
I would suggest using a carrier to transport your dog. He will feel safer and he actually will be safer. Sometimes when you have to put on your brakes the dog gets lunged forward and feels unsafe on the seat. God forbid you ever got in an accident because he could go flying into a windshield or some other part of the car or it's occupants. Some people use doggy car seats with a harness to secure the dog or just a regular hard carrier is also very safe and can be seat belted into the car. Your dog is apparently afraid. Maybe he did slide off the seat at some point and is now afraid it will happen again. |

she has gone on car rides ever since she was a puppy, she is used to the car, and we travel a lot.....it just happend one day out of the blue. I am wondering id=f she is going sennile(sp) ??? |
I don't believe senility is a problem yet with a 7 year old yorkie. For some odd reason, she is scared. Does she ride in a car seat? They are usually more comfortable in them. You may want to use Rescue Remedy to help calm her - the kind for dogs - not for people. |
Thank you for your replies everyone...I am not blocked anymore, so I will respond to everyone... |

I think you should look into getting a car seat. Make her feel more secure. It\'s also more safe for her to travel in one anyway. Maybe she got her toe or something hurt in the car last time? Maybe there is something yummy under the seat and she can\'t get it? |
Karen, She has gone in the car with us ever since she was a baby, she love car rides...not anymore However, its really so sad to see(: |
GeenaBamDad The same is happened to Mya. It just came one day as we were driving and she started to pant and was extreamly skiddish...we had no idea what was wrong with her.. |
I can actually help with this... Roscoe was VERY use to going on car rides since he was a baby. Around 8 months old he started to FREAK out in the car! He did the same thing. He would cry and whine, bark, try to hide under the seats and everything else. In fact one time I was at a red light and he was freaking out! I was trying to deal with him and help him get comfy when I let off the brake by accident and hit the car in front of us. Thank goodness it wasn\'t a big accident it was a little nudge. After finding YT I got him a carseat and not either he rides in his carseat or in his kennel and he actually loves car rides again! He likes feeling secure. In fact if we are on a country road and not going to fast he likes to sit in my lap and feel the air on his face again! So I would try a carseat for him and there are a lot of people in here with reccomendations on those, myself included. If a carseat won\'t work then try his kennel if he/shae is kennel trained it might make your baby feel safer. |
