Teddy Bear Yorkies We call Bam a teddy bear Yorkie. I have heard that there is no such thing. We know he is a pure bred but we opted never to have his ears pointed so he really kept that adorable teddy bear look. His ancestry is one that consists of the black and gold look. People love to put down dogs for some reason. I've been told there are no such dogs as teacup Yorkies and I laugh when I hear that. I consider Bam a toy Yorkie because he is too big to be a teacup and too small to be a standard size. At 5.5 pounds, he is in the middle. |
Welcome to YT. I have a floppy eared yorkie too. :) 5.5 pounds is within standard. Actually so are "teacups". The standard is 7 lbs and under. Any pup under 7 lbs is a standard sized Yorkshire terrier. :) I do understand your comment on putting other dogs down. My floppy eared fellow is on the higher end of the standard, weighing in at 7 lbs. at a yorkie meetup there were only tiny yorkies and the owners did not allow their dogs to play with mine. It was so sad and it made me feel horrible. |
Welcome to YT! We would love to see pix of your cutie too! :) |
Welcome to YT, would love to see some pics of your teddy bear.. |
All Yorkies are in the Toy classification no matter what their size. Poodles have three classifications, standard, miniature and toy, but the Yorkie has only one classification and that's toy. I think pet owners sometimes get confused by the word “standard” and what it means. This is just a blueprint of what the perfect specimen of the breed should look like. Even show dogs are allowed to have 3 faults though, there are no perfect dogs. So all our pets have some faults as well, but as pet owners we need not concern ourselves with the dog's faults, only breeders need to evaluate a dog for faults. Our pets are truly perfect no matter where they came from or how many faults they have. Welcome to you and Bam! |
I guess what people are saying to you is that officially there is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie. As has already been stated the AKC puts the Yorkie in the Toy grouping. Some people breed Yorkies and other small breeds to be as small as possible and then give it a label of "teacup" to attract buyers who want a very small dog. Yorkie's ears are not cropped. They are supposed to go up naturally. Some Yorkie's ears never go up but that does not make them less of a Yorkie. Some people prefer the floppy ear look. For me it is the Yorkie personality that is the most endearing asset. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk. Callie has floppy ears and my moms says she looks like a boyds bear lol. All yorkies are actually in the toy group. |
Nigel has one ear up and one down. My vet says it may stand up later and is probably due to teething. I think he is adorable and could care less if it stands. I think the floppy look is cute! |
