I must also say that those that need to rehome their dog because he or she has become sick are usually the people that have a hard time parting with their dog. That is the saddest situation because you know how much they love their dog and worry about where they will end up. |
I think it is good to encourage an overwhelmed new parent to give it some time. I also think that if a new mom is just unable to cope, then giving up a pet can be the most responsible, mature, and loving thing to do. Life has taught me to never say "never" and not to say that I can't imagine doing that..." Life has a habit of teaching :(me painful lessons in understanding whenever I say things like that. . |
I grew up in the horse business, training, teaching, selling, etc. To me these animals were business assets. I only allowed myself to get attached to 2 horses in particular, it took me almost a year to walk away from them cause I knew that it was best for me to leave the situation. When I got Harley, I purchased him in the same manner one would buy the horse. Extensive research, picked the dam and sire so that I would get the exact result personality wise that I was looking for.... would I sell him if I couldn\'t keep up with him? NO WAY... He\'s been sick for four months, I\'ve poured every cent I have left into keeping him, on top of law school applications, finishing my degree, work and god knows what else. I\'ve already decided that he\'s my priority over starting a family. He is my family. Honestly do I want kids 10 years from now, maybe. Did I play "parent" with my bf in this process as the other Kendra said.... ok yes, it was a test for us, maybe, but at the end of the day regardless of the BF, he\'s my buddy and is sticking with me, and it\'s all worked out. |
Lovespandp, I would put PigPen under the category of not the right fit. Because of his issues he wasn\'t a good fit with your other dog. DJDB you realized it wasn\'t the right time for the addition. The people I was referring to got rid of animals they had for 2-4 years before they decided they couldn\'t keep them. They were all sweet animals, but they no longer fit in with the owners lifestyle. It wasn\'t for financial reasons, hardships or behavioral problems. They flat out didn\'t want them anymore. |
