then you should know Gizzy, we too are LEOPA members and past Monroe members, we have the Black Thunder called PatriYacht, now we are really derailing this thread, would have posted a better picture but seems like mine are all to big for this site

Lol, go Detroit Red Wings!

Wylie's Mom 01-18-2012 12:09 PM

Glad to see this thread calmed down :D. I don't see attacks, but definitely passion - which isn't a bad thing. I do understand that some wish others would be more gentle, but also, some wish others were more direct. It goes both ways. :)

Also, she did open the conversation about pet stores.

To the OP, looks like you have some great opinions from all angles - hope this helps.

I know Bella is from a Kennel in Detroit Lakes, MN - I think I will let it go.

What happens to the puppies that no one buys??? Where do they end up?

I find it so sad and I wish I would have done some research...I just never even thought until after I bought Bella and found this site to get some advice. I had no idea...you really don't even hear anything about pet stores not being a good place to buy a puppy. I was thinking it would be the logical place to buy a puppy! I was so wrong.

We love Bella so much and she is VERY spoiled...we have a vet that is awesome (she used to work for me before she went to college) and I trust her totally. She will keep a close eye on Bella and I am just praying my poor Bella does not have any issues as she gets older.

She is sleeping like a little angel under my desk (she comes to work with me) as we speak. So cute!!!

Most of the puppies get sold because if they don't sell them they mark the price down until someone buys them but I'm sure the puppy mill keeps some of the puppies to use for breeding. Its ok that you didn't know but you do now so if you get Bella a sibling you know :)

But on the other hand I am not going to attack someone for it either.

There was no attack at least that's not what I was trying to do I just want other posters to know about puppy mills and your post did seem kinda like it was support puppy mills or at least making them not seem so bad when in reality they are terrible horrible places and there is nothing bright and shiny about them.

The main difference is luck of the draw, I have had 3500.00 show dogs with health problems and 800.00 pet quality dogs with health problems.

No body is raining on any ones parade we are simply sharing information which is what yorkietalk is here for supporting people and helping educate people. There can be health problems with any dog but reputable breeders do testing and such to lessen the risk of an unhealthy puppy as well as know there lines to know if an there is a health problem popping up and puppy mills don't.

DBlain, yes I remember meeting you, we have the 38 ft Formula ToyToo, I had a white Bichon Frise named Missy for most of the time we have been members, We usually ran with Ron and Rita on the Apache. You were at Kelly's three years ago, right. Dave Powell and Ron and Gary my husband usually run to Kelly's together. Sure I remember you and this is a small world.

Did you get my PM. they don't seem to be going through I am going to have to find out why.

You are right she asked a question but at the same time she was trying to validate her puppy, which leads me to think she already knew the answer but was hoping for some type of acceptance. So perhaps instead of turning this thread into the horrors of pet stores and puppy mills a simple reply like yes most pet stores get their dogs from puppy mills, so pay close attention to your dog's health and if you decide to purchase another dog you might be better off looking for an honest breeder, would have been a little nicer. I do notice she has not been back to comment so that tells me she might not be feeling a lot of love.

No one attack any one except you. Believe what you want to I'm not going to sugar coat puppy mills and pet store dogs but if that is what you want to do that's your business. I could never sleep at night if I didn't give correct information to someone especially information that might be read by someone else and keep them from buying a puppy mill dog. So sick of good people being accused of attacking when there not sheesh. Please tell me where the attacking is? Quote it please.

Also that post was written after I got attacked for telling the OP that it was not all doom and gloom that health wise her puppy might be OK, after all can any of us predict the health of her puppy, many here have even stated they have healthy dogs that came from puppy mills and pet stores.

You were not attacked if you would like be to I would love to show you an attack if it means I get banned so be it at this point maybe yall need to learn what an attack is!

gezzzze can't we just put this topic on advice versus attack on the OP to rest, some of us read and interpret things differntly than others, it's not a crime. We get it you and others were not attacking just very passionate in your message on the subject of pet stores.

You I was attacked and said I was attacking people which I was not and I was not online to defend myself earlier but I sure as heck am now and will!

DBlain 01-18-2012 01:22 PM

I am sure you are a nice person, and I agree with your feelings against pet stores/puppy mills, but like it or not I felt attacked after trying to make the OP not feel bad about her new puppy. Are you to caught up in being right that it does not matter how it makes others feel. I can tell you are getting angry, why, is it because I honestly said I felt attacked, perhaps I am more sensitive then you, but by keeping this up you are validating my feelings.

now to add my 2 cents

I think we all go through "stages" in our knowledge and passion about our dogs.
I can say there was a time I did not even know about puppy mills... now I would not buy a puppy from a pet store even if it broke my heart to walk away. I know every puppy that is purchased sends money back to the owners of the puppy mills and the brokers.

I just watched a move called Madonna of the mills... there is a website and facebook page with it. wow... if that doesn't start passion!!

Because we know we HAVE to EDUCATE people. To see something that is wrong and not say something is .. well... wrong!

OP you have your puppy, it is not a matter if the dog is going to be sick.. you may be lucky. It is the place he came from. You have him, love him, care for him.... and speak out against the hell hole his mother is and educate as many people as you can. Don't take our word for it... do your research.

Maybe you will learn BECAUSE of this purchase and this new member of your family that could lead to others being saved!!! Every action has a reaction!

To the Yancy1211 the one thing we can all agree upon is that Yogi is adorable and is lucky with their new life with you. I too made an emotional pet store purchase. I do not regret getting Buster as he is the love of my life, my Prozac for dealing with this crazy world. He has brought so much joy to my life and I know Yogi will do the same for you. That being said he did come with many health issues and I have spent thousands of dollars on medical bills. I would recommend you look into getting pet insurance. I was lucky as I did get insurance before he was diagnosed with some conditions. If I did not have the insurance before the diagnosis they would have been considered preexisting and not covered. Best wishes to you and Yogi and may you have a long and healthy life together.

No I was defending myself because you think I was attacking and I was not at all attacking. I am not caught up in being right I am caught up in people coming on here wanting poneys and rainbows about things that simply don't have poneys and rainbows.

I see no attacks here, just people trying to educate & open the eyes of the OP & anyone who might read this thread. Before I came to YT, I knew nothing about puppy mills, didn't even know something horrendous as that existed. After I found out (saw videos of puppy mills on YT), I showed it to my family & sent all my friends the links. As long as I'm breathing, I'll help expose puppy mills.

He is 10 weeks, has full AKC papers with breeders paperwork and actual chip in him, if he is ever lost, with all shots up to date and warranty for the next year for his vaccinations. All sounds good and he is great and the crate training is going great, still working on our potty thing.

Does this still sound official or a puppymill kind of thing. :(

How do I do Pics to the actual Forum page? Instead of a Thumbnail? Or Is this Thumbnail Ok.

Petland supports pupmills.
AKC papers are only as good as the breeder they came from.
No reputable breeder would hand their pups over to a broker (or pet store)
furthermore no reputable breeder would sell their pups on a full registration it alone to someone they will never meet.
So both yes this is official and yes this is a pup mill kind of thing.

Beautiful puppy you have now hope it all works out for you both and to see you on here more.:)
