How to get snow balls off?? What do you all do with your yorkies when they go out in deep snow and come in covered in snow balls? We got quite a bit of snow last night, and everytime farley goes out he comes in covered in snow balls, all 4 legs, and his chest and neck. I just stick him in the bath tub and rinse off the snow balls. Just curious what everyone else does. This is time consuming, lol. If i dont, he runs around trying to bite them off, or gets me all wet or the couch. We havent had much snow this year yet. Last year farleys hair was much shorter than it is right now. |
This year we have kept them in the puppy cut . . . but in the past, what I do is have a towel ready for when they come in and just wrap them up and let the snow balls melt . . .it was only my Rhianna that used to get the snowball cling on's . . .:D |
When we had snow in D/FW during the Superbowl week last year, I kept a hair dryer on the Utility Porch, together with a big towel. I would scoop Tibbe up - all covered in white snow balls all in and hanging from his fur - and start the hair dryer. Warmed him up, melted the snowballs and I would rub him in between dryings with the towel. Pulling them off takes forever and the dog is shaking cold the whole time. Using the hair dryer immediately dries the legs and feet, warming those tiny toes, while working on the little snowballs also. Tibbe would even roll over and wallow in the snow so he really got them just all over and just just on the underbelly and sides 0 and they would freeze tight to strands of his hair all over, even his mustaches. He was a white frozen and wet mess each time he came in - but oh, he so enjoyed that snow! |
I use a blow dryer on my yorkies and warm water in a bucket & towel for my previous golden Lucky. He was afraid of the blow dryer. |
I blow dry his hair when he is covered in tiny snowballs. He actually runs straight to the bathroom so I can blow dry his hair when it snows. It's so cute! |
I always have a towel ready and I wrap them in it and work on the snow balls. I can not use a blow dryer because they are all afraid of it. A good idea would be to warm the towel in the dryer for a few minutes. |
We haven't had that first big snow yet. But I too was thinking I could use the blow dryer on Katie Scarlett if she gets snow balls. She actually is a fan of the dryer. I think she likes that it is warm and she knows it is helping. She doesn't like anywhere near her face though. LOL |

When we lived in CO, I would first put Toto in a little pair of her jammies or long johns, then her boots and last her little suede coat or one of her hoody coats. When she was finished playing outside we would bring her in, strip off all her clothes and wrap her in a warm towel for a little nap. When she woke she would be toasty warm, dry and I would then slip her into a little shirt for inside. Thank God for pee pee pad training ... don't think I would have liked this routine every time she had to potty! |
OMG!!! Such cute dog/stories. I love this place. |
