spolied yorkie w/ a new baby. So as you all know me & Bee have a very special relationship & she is very attached to me & is always at my hip. But I am now 10 weeks pregnant(was waiting to announce) & i dont know how she is going to react to having an infant in the house. She is used to being the baby of the house & used to getting my full attention at all times. I am very nervous about how this will all affect her. Of course I am still going to give her lots of affection, attention & love but there is definitely going to be a change. Any of you have this issue ? Thanks. Love, Lauren. |
When I married I had a little Maltese. She was very spoiled and used to being in my lap when ever I sat down. When the first child was born we introduced her to the baby as soon as I brought him home. She was allowed to sniff the baby and check him out closely. When I would hold the baby she would be right beside me. She followed me around as I cared for the little one. She would look at me as though I was a slacker if I didn't run to get the baby as soon as he cried. I know Yorkies have a different personality than a Maltese but I think with proper introduction and allowing her to feel she is an important part of the care of the child there should be no real problem. I was a stay at home mom so they both got lots of attention. I think that is the important part. Best wishes to you and the new baby. |

I have no skin kids, so I am not sure what advice I can offer, but I did want to tell you Congratulations on your upcoming arrival! How exciting! I know some of these old YT pro's can help more than I. :) |
One of the first things we did when we brought a baby home (we had 7 kids) was to unwrap them and lay them on a blanket on the floor and let the dogs check them out any way they wanted to. They sniffed, licked lightly, whatever they wanted. Our dogs were gentle in nature anyway though. More often than not, once they finished checking the baby out, and let me tell you it took them awhile, they would lay down next to the baby. After that, nobody messed with their kid! The dogs were never told to stay away from the baby. They knew the baby was part of the family and belonged there. We also remained attentive with the dogs so they wouldn't feel they are being left out. |
