Keeping toys in the toy box?
 

Any ideas besides hiding it out of his reach? Riot will pull all his toys of of the box right after I put them back in. It's not like he pulls one out to play with and leaves it out, he will pull them out one by one until the toy box is empty. If he sees me put them up out of his reach like on the kitchen table, he will stand at the table and whine or he will run into the room and stare at me until I get up to see what he wants and bring me over to the table. Any ideas on how to get him to leave the toys in the box?

Also, he's an incessant chewer, but only when it comes to his toys. He only has a few types of toys we can even get because he's chewed almost everything we can find to bits, even kongs! My concern is that we're getting a new pup and I know he will need lots of toys so he doesn't start chewing up out stuff/furniture, but his little teeth won't be strong enough for the extreme chew toys. Should we just keep the toys in the puppy's area so he'll have them when he's in there when we're gone and not let Riot in? Obviously we'd play with them both with toys when we're home but should we just put all the "soft" toys up when play time is over? any ideas?

I didn't think I'd have so many questions when getting our second yorkie since we've been through it before but now it's a whole new set of firsts!

Boy do I understand what you are saying. Scooter and Bitsy have at least 50 toys in various toy boxes around the house. Bitsy, a Lhasa, has teeth like a chain saw and chews everything to bits while Scooter barely can make a dent. I have no suggestions as to how to keep them in the toy boxes otherwise I would do it too. I've found that when Bitsy chews the white stuffing out of the soft toys, I replace it with scraps of material like an old sheet. For some reason she doesn't like to chew them up with the material as stuffing. If anyone has an idea I'm more than open to it.

I totally understand! I have two and I think Roscoe taught Sukie how to always drag them out of their toy box! I am always finding toys all over the house and as soon as I pick them up here they come to drag them all back out! One thing I did find though is if I put them in thier kennel(it's an XL kennel so it's like a bedroom for them) they normally only play with it in there and leave in their "room". The only thing I can suggest is to only put a few toys in there toybox at one time, that seems to help a lot! It is also really fun to them when I rotate their toys every day and they get a few "new" toys everyday.

Oh also for your new pup try the stufffing free soft toys I love them you can get them at petsmart.

That was my thought too! Katie Scarlett's grandmother got her a toy box for Christmas. It is black with a locking zebra print lid. She even put her initals on it in pink. Yes, she is spoiled. But at the end of the day, I put her toys in the box and lock the lid down. She tried to get it open the first night, but figured out she couldn't. She got a little peeved with me, but I put her on the bed with me and gave her a bully stick. I let her chew for a bit before giving her water and putting her to bed. It's our nightly ritual now. I find it is best to keep the box hidden up high like in a cupboard or closet and only bring a few out at a time. Do this when the dog is sleeping or not around. If they see where you put it or if you have one with a lid they will just bark at that spot and drive you crazy. Of course make sure when you bring them out that they do not see where they come from. I often feel like such a sneak, I will take one or two out of the cupboard and stuff it in my blouse or something till I get to a place away from the toy storage area. LOL when caught I change hiding spots. Lola is getting harder to trick now because her sense of smell is so strong. One of her favorite toys is flat enough to push under the couch which she does and then paws at the couch, so those I keep for outside. My husband gave her one yesterday, so immediately she buried it under the couch, after she saw me get it out I threw another toy which she ran to fetch, while she was runny to fetch I put the flat toy on a high table where she could not see it, don't you know she was able to smell it and went right under the spot where I had stashed it, it took several more ball tossing on my part until my husband could sneak away and put the flat toy behind the cupboard door.
