Alone Is it bad to leave my Yorkie alone? He is 16 weeks now. I go to work and keep him in a large bathroom while I am away with his soft bed and toys, something to chew on, food and water. Also, for a good part of the night I put him in the same place so that it is dark and he is not disturbed while I am still up and in the light. So he can sleep in peace, and so can I. Is it bad for him to do this? I've had him a week and he is fine in terms of temperament. It does not seem to have had ill-effects, but I know I would not like to be left alone like this. Am I being cruel. What alternatives do I have? The cleaner comes twice a week and she gives him hugs, and I do not leave him alone during the day on weekends. So in the end he is alone 3 out of 7 days a week. |
Have you considered doggy day care? I think he is probably lonely. |
Why can't he be with you while you finish up for the day? I think being in that one room alone for more than 8 hours is a bit much. Im sure he would rather fall asleep on your lap even if the light is on, or in a bed near you. It can help you two bond. May brothers and I can stay up pretty late when we get together. Kaji, my pup, will gladly sleep in my lap, or curl up on he couch with us. We're loud, and he doesn't care. He just likes to hang out with us. If it's last his self imposed bed time, he just sleeps. He doesn't seem bothered by our antics. :) |
I agree with the posters above as well. I would never leave Romeo alone in the same room for more than 30 minutes (while I am showering). I believe the best way to bond is to have your baby close and around you as much as you can. As others have said, they become immune to light and noise and will sleep through anything. Your baby is very young and needs lots of hugs, kisses and attention. |
