Anyone moved across the country with their dogs? I currently live in NY but an toying with the idea of moving to Las Vegas, NV. I am currently looking at condos and am considering moving within the next 5 years. I am a little worried about the kiddos. We have moved around a lot within NY and they always do fine with the moves- but am wondering if the BIG move would make a difference. I am also worried about having to find all new "pet places" vets, groomers, sitters, etc. When I have moved around here I have always been able to keep the same people. So has anyone survived a big move with their pets? Was it stressful on them? Did it take you a long time to find services for them that you were comfortable with? |
I moved from Alberta Canada to Upstate NY. I had 2 with me for the 4 day drive. One did well, one not so much had to sedate him |
cslat1 (Carol) recently moved from New Hampshire to California and her little Calleigh did fine with the move. I think they are more flexible than we think they are. |
Haha, that is a funny question around our house! We have moved from Japan to Alaska with two dogs. Flew from Japan to Florida to see family and then bought an SUV and drove from Florida to Alaska along with 4 kids. Then two years later we moved to Georgia dn again drove from Alaska to there with 4 kids and 2 dogs. The dogs did better than the kids both times! We then moved from Georgia to England and that was the hardest but we did survive it. It's always a job finding new services but we always managed and I often find that what I am able to find is sometimes better than what I left behind. You should have no worries, easy peasy. ;) |
We drove from North Carolina to Alaska with our Akita and he liked it, it was the 5 of us and him and all our stuff in a mini van! It took is 2 months because we were visiting family, best time ever tho. |
We moved from Nebraska to Texas with 4 dogs. The moving truck had all our furniture. We had the 3 small dogs in one car and the big dog in the other car. They did fine. As someone else mentioned, I think the dogs did as well or better than us humans. As long as they were with us, they seemed to be happy. Once we got moved in they acted like everything was normal again. |
