Flea/tick medication - fighting Ok more advice needed We have used K9 Advantix 3 times now and each time, they fight. We made it 3 weeks and 2 days without a fight and the night before I used it, they fought. This time was different, we were actually walking outside and a neighbor walked her dog past and another neighbor stopped beside us in his car to say hello, and they went at it. It was over soon enough but attributed it to the K9 Advantix being put on them when we got home. We tried Frontline Plus with our other Yorkie and it didn't work. Any suggestions? We did use Advantage on our other Yorkie, and that did but I was thinking of trying Comfortis. Has anyone else used this? A neighbor of ours with Greyhounds says that it isn't safe but it has to be better than then fighting over medication. We worry primarily about fleas versus ticks. Thanks again, Mel |
I use Comfortis, never had had a problem. I tried Frontline with Sophie Kate and it caused some irritation to her skin and she would act like it was burning her so I had to switch. Like you I am more worried about Fleas than Ticks, if we are going to be somewhere outside for a long time I have a tick collar I put on her. |
Are there any side effects with the Comfortis that you notice? I figure it may be easier then irritating their fur with a topical. Currently they're 6 & 7 pounds each. |
I know someone who used it for a Chi. I guess it worked...not sure...no details. The Chi didn't like it so much...it had to be broken into pieces and hidden in gobs of p-butter. I looked at it for mine since I have noticed once a month topicals do not seem to work on my two and was astonished that flavor is partly derived from "hydrolyzed soy"...which is msg (anything hydrolyzed or autolyzed is an 'msg' or 'free unbound glutamate' nut not necessarily "monosodium glutamate") and msg is an excitatory neurotoxin as is aspartame. Also, most soy is GMO, as I understand it, and soy has issues due to phytoestrogens. I haven't gone back to researching this product, but just thought you might like to know so you can if you are interested. Take care! |
The only side effect is she is given Comfortis on an empty stomach it will cause some upset (happened only once, my fault). Sophie Kate was on a combined Flea/Tick/Heart Worm called Trefix for a few months but she had really bad reaction to it (very sick, vomiting) so I had to take her off it. I also have to give smothered in Peanut Butter but that is more Sophie Kate - she is not an easy dog to pill. |
My friends chi had a reaction to Frontline such as burning and her vet told her to put half behind each ear and it works, no issues. You use the whole vial but just half behind each ear. I hope this helps,,, |
