New Puppy general questions please help Ok so I have had my new baby Theo for about 2 weeks and I am completely in love with him :) I have done a lot of research but seem to come up with mixed answers so here a few questions i have if anyone wants to help his vet appointment is not for another 2 weeks and I dont want to wait that long to ask the vet :D he is 10 weeks old and weighs 2.5lbs how much should he eat and how many calories? he is as active as a normal puppy he gets bouts of energy for about an hour then sleeps and again and again lol and i feed him Eukanuba How often should i brush his teeth and with what products? Is going to the groomers once a month sufficient? what are the best treats to give as reward for potty training as to not exceed calorie intake? i heard cherios are good but then i know human food is not good for them and i do not plan on giving him any thanks! any advice will be great help |
We go to the groomer every 3 months |
I give cherrio's for treats mine love them |
Brushing ideally daily, but at least 2-3 times per wk Treats: small pieces of beans, carrots, almost any vege - except onions. No grapes or raisins. Blueberries very good. Sweet potatoe. First grooming appt : wait until after all shots In nthe meantime trim the nails yourself, check ears - touch pup all over. Start him used to a brush - get a soft baby brush to start with. Public Places: don't take puppy until all shots. I would be feeding 3x per day. You can use recommendation on the box of kibble that you are feeding. Divide amt in three. Also why wait 2wks to bring to vet. Usually with new puppy you take to vet with in 48hrs of purchase, for their health check. |
Thanks all |

Hello~~ I have a nine-week old and a five-month old. For treats, I use the puppy foods that they eat (they are currently on two different brands). I guess fruits and veggies are healthy but my boys can't get enough of their individual foods... so for us, the foods work extremely well. We started giving our older puppy bananas and carrots as treats but he was strictly on dry puppy food and Virbac's Nutri Plus until he reached five months. We didn't want to introduce human food too early fearing he might become a finicky/picky eater. Just a personal preference. Our younger puppy will be on the same restricted diet until he reaches five months. We started "practicing" teeth brushing around twelve weeks. They'll eventually lose their baby teeth but getting them used to having their teeth brushed will probably save you tons of hassle in the future. Again, this is personal preference. We use Virbac toothpaste (chicken flavor). It comes with a toothbrush. As for the amount of food you should feed...We were told to feed 3%-4% of the puppy's weight (taking all measurement conversions into account, of course). The results should fall in the ballpark of the amount recommended on the food bag. Hope this helps~~ |
