? regarding ears My little guy is going to 6 months old at the end of the month. What I have noticed recently is that one ear is upright the other flops down. I just noticed it recently. I prefer flopppy down ears. Should I do something? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |
When your baby is teething, most of the calcium in his system is being used for teeth and jaw development. This causes the the cartilage in his ears to not grow as fast as the ear leather. If you suppliment his with something calcium rich, his ears will stand up in no time. It's very common for this to happen. We fed Harlie a tablespoon of cottage cheese everyday for a while and her ears stood straight up in about a month. Her loves her cottage cheese to this day :). |
thanks what about if I don't want them to stand up...don't feed him calcium? |
It actually doesn't matter what you do, the ears are going to do what they want to do. Sophie's one ear went down while she was teething and then shot back up. You'll just have to take what you get. They're adorable either way! |

Your question reminded me of what a friend did. Warning I am not suggesting you try this. A friend had Small Continetal Spaniel that had one ear that up. She wanted both to flop. She taped a quarter to the tip of the prick ear ( I wonder if she shaved the ear first, or taped it to the fur ?) The weight made the ear flop. Yorkies are supposed to have small V shaped, up right prick ears. |

Hmmmm, well my tiny one (8 weeks tomorrow), her little ears only flop on the top half. It's so cute. LOL I can hardly wait to see how she'll grow up and change. |
Reminds me of my mom. Years ago she had a Sheltie and she wanted his ears to tip so badly. The breeder gave her two or three things to do to try to get them to tip and she did them religiously for months but those ears never tipped. |
Apollo's ears were floppy as floppy can be...then one day, we noticed one was floppy and one was straight. I have a picture of it in my album. Then about two days later (after first haircut), both were standing straight up. They look so huge with short facial hair. His new nickname is desert fox. |
