Iams - LONG POST (sorry) First let me say that I've only heard horrible things about what this company does to animals. Here's my dilemma. One of my dogs has been diagnosed with allergies. The vet wants to try a 1-2 month "food trial" in where I switch to a prescription dog food containing mostly potatoes and fish. I went to pick up the food and was shocked to find out that it's made by Iams. I asked to speak to the vet as I don't want to support this company by even buying ONE bag of their food. There is not a food sold in Canada that is even close to the recipe that he thinks will help my furbaby. He says that Iams has disputed the claims on the internet and that there are always two sides to a story. His Iams rep told him that the woman from PETA who broke the story actually worked for Iams and was a disgruntled employee. He urged me to speak to someone at Iams. I told him that I wanted to do my own research first. So I started but I can't seem to find any rebuttles from Iams on the clams. I'm looking for opinions here. My vet agreed to stop carrying the food if I could prove that it was 100% correct (the stories on the internet). It is not an option for me to switch vets. Help! |

Second, I would visit iamscruelty.com to learn everything you can about what Iams does. You can see video footage with your own eyes. Iams' labs are horrible and Iams parent company Proctor & Gamble is equally bad. Third, a lot of veterinarians still use Yukanuba/Iams and don't even want to hear about what they do in labs. In fact, many of the products vets use come from companies that experiment on animals, not just food companies. So that's good that at least your vet is willing to listen to this info. But what is his definition of 100% correct? Will video prove it, other eye witness accounts. I am glad that these 'disgruntled' employees came forward because it's the employees who are first hand witnesses to abuse and are usually the ones that get the ball rolling to stop it. Although Iams has not only refused to stop experimenting on animals, they are opening a new lab to continue it. Thousands of people have pleaded with them to stop. Are only other option is to boycott the food. I work in a vet hospital and I volunteer at a shelter and both use prescription diets (Hill's Science Diet). Actually, Hill's also has labs but they are not doing what Iams does as far as I know. Also, a shelter in the county where I live refused to take donated food from Iams because of what they are doing. There are shelters all over the country that won't take food from Iams. My best advice is to visit that website and if you have other specific questions email PETA and they will answer them. |
Could you order a food on-line that would have the same ingredients you need? |
my personal view point of Iams, YUCK gross stuff. I would try Natures Recipe. it's made specifically for dogs with food allergies. They have venison and Potatoes, fish and potatoe, and vegetarian formulas. there are others but I can't recall them all. |
I'm sure there are better quality foods out there that would do the same things they claim Iams would.. I'd research it.. Im always surprised that vets carry Iams, Eukanuba, and Science Diet ,when quality wise they are not very good. |
Eukanuba isn't good? |

HOW could any body do things like that to helpless animals!! It makes you want to take each one of these dogs in and give them a lot of TLC. They look so scared of just what these people will do next to them. To bad the tables couldn't be turned and give them a taste of their own medicine. I will probably go to bed and think of these things all night. |
