anyone ever use housetraining wrappers for male dogs? Ollie (14 weeks - Biewer Yorkie) is very hit or miss with peeing. He seems to get the idea about pooping outside but not peeing....although he does try to go if we take him out constantly. unfortunately, we cannot always tell if he has to go or not. I tried purchasing these housetraing wrappers male dog housetraining system by planet-urine. Well, Ollie had a fit. i couldn't tell if he was trying to wriggle out of it, hump it off, or poop it off. I took it off because he was acting so weird. I am wondering if anyone knows anything about this product. The ad says any male dog will be trained in two weeks maxium with this system. deb  |
Are they like a belly band? I would recommend against using them for house training. First, keep in mind your pup is young and needs a little time to develop his bladder fully. Frequent potty trips are a necessity for small pups. Don't wait for signs he needs to go. Take him when he wakes (from nighttime sleep and naps), after each meal, after or during playtime or any time that is exciting, and in between. Restrict his freedom of movement in your home until he is trained. Keep him where you can supervise closely. When you can't watch, confine him to one small area with a washable floor, or an xpen. Give him more freedom as his potty habits develop. Praise for every single good potty. My boys are 2 and 3 years old and we still praise for good potties -- indoors on pads, and outdoors. :) We go really nuts -- woohoo! Great job! ...and other things I can't repeat here. :p I often give a single kibble as a reward. |
Welcome Deb! I've not had males, and can't speak for the bands, but agree with everything stated above for potty training. Look forward to seeing pics of Ollie (love his name :)) |
Thanks. That sounds like good advice. He was so upset. It was like a belly band / ace bandage kind of thing. Very strange and way too big for his little body. |
