Are the Wisdom Panel DNA tests really accurate? I am interested to see if it gives me any answers, after taking my pup to the vet for the first time (since i got him) he said he doesn't have yorkie fur. and is long for a yorkie. He said that he looks like a silky, showed him pics of the parents and he says they look silky! |
I have read arguments for against the accuracy of the test. Your baby is adorable no matter what any test would say. :) |
I know he is I love him so much, I look forward to him running to the door when I get home from work every day, I love how excited he gets and how he jumps around (: I kind of wanted to do the test because i asked the breeder about whether he is fullbred or not..since my vet said he doesnt think so. She started telling me she wouldn't go through the expense of getting their tails docked if he wasn't full yorkie.... and he isn't registered, which i didn't reaqlly care about since he is just going to be my pet, he's the most loving puppy either way! (: she said she didn't have them reistered so she can sell them for the price she does. i paid 600 for him. at this point I don't care what I spent , he's my baby !! |

I meant to write above that I have read arguments for and against the test. If you had paid for a champion-sired yorkie, I would say, sure get tests done and go back to the breeder. You can also ask to see the papers or the AKC registration numbers for your pup's parents if you are really curious. For me, I would just love and enjoy my boy. :) |
I don't know about the test but I looked at your album and he looks like a Yorkie to me. He may have a slower growing coat. There's so many yorkies that don't meet the standard exactly but are still 100% yorkie. One of mine who was a rescue has a long body and big ears but a gorgeous silk coat. He looks like he could have had some silky in him but most thought he was all yorkie. Is the test expensive? If not you may want to do just so you know for sure. He sure is cute! |
i'm not sure! Someone else on here said it was around 90.. Which is a lot of money.. I dont have the good job I had when I bought him, that's why I don't care how much I paid for him. If he is yorkie then he definitely has a slower growing coat! you always see pictures of yorkie pups with longer, fluffy fur.. sometimes it looks thin and stringy! his is definitely thicker but it's growing. i'd say it's almost an inch long, if not that, when i make his fur stand up.. Around his eyes you can see the color changing, he has the light tan color growing in, you can see the black ends! The vet said he's definitely pet quality. I gave him a bath today and he looks so much more fluffy when I dry him than he does on most days! and by dry him I mean I sit in front of my space heater with him... no blow dryer!! The lady at the petstore thought i meant blow drying and got mad for a second! haha :) But as i was saying, he is a little long... he weights 3.8 pounds. and is 12 weeks today actuyally,... I just realized that! :) |
Why did she get mad about a blow dryer? Blow dryers are fine, Just avoid the eyes and set the heat on low and keep the air stream moving at all times so that it isn't concentrated on one area for any length of time. |
i dont know! this was the same lady that offended me! she said to me "oh he's cute, what is he mixed with? I said yorkie but not sure if he is full... She then went on saying how I was irresponsible because I bought him.. I responded to her saying I don't care what he is because he's such a joy to have! and I didn't know blow drying was okay! I have a pomeranian also and he is SOOO fluffy! I always wanted to blow dry him but wasn't sure! |

I got my Pixie who has a nice long silky coat when she was 13 months old so I never saw her when she was a puppy. Her breeder said she was funny looking with very little coat as a puppy. Now her coat grows so fast and she is a little cutie. They change so much from puppy to adult. I also had a pomeranian who had a huge fluffy coat! When blow drying use a low setting. I had my pom professionally groomed and one time she got so overheated I almost lost her. |
oh no! you almost lost her when she got professionally groomed???!! i groom my pom myself and will do the same for my new baby. im the same way actually with myy hair Lol! no one else cuts it or anything but me. haha! well thanks everyone, he has stolen my heart, that's a good way to put it! guess its natural to be curious about what he is but i definitely love him regardless :) |
