Grooming question I bathe Prissy and I hold her ears shut since I am afraid of water getting inside..Tried the piece of cotton ball and no way would it stay in..I seen where someone mentioned an ear product for grooming and I can't find it anywhere..I know I read so much on here and bookmark so much that my mind is going around in circles..I just want what is best for my puppy..She goes to a wonderful groomer once a month but as you all know once a month is not enough..LOL TIA.:aimeeyork |
Cotton balls won't stay in my boys' ears either, and they are big boys. Some people use foam ear plugs. I have been meaning to try that. My only concern is that they might push hair and dirt further into the ear. I haven't had any ear problems so far. We use Vet Solutions ear cleaner with a drying agent after baths, when I remember. Any good ear cleaner with a dryer helps. |
Thanks and I've not had any ear problems yet and hope I don't..Yoshi my 6 year old Peke has never had an ear issue either,,just allergies. |
I just checked on Amazon and is it the Vest Solutions Cleaner? It says it moisturizes too. |
Ok, I found the one, thank you so much..... |
I've never used anything in my life and have never had any problems. I'm just careful not to spray down her ear canal. |

I either use a sponge on the head, or I turn the water pressure down and only spray from the top of the head and let the water run down. Dogs can close their ears (to an extent) to avoid getting water in their ears. When I rinse the earflap, I spray the water from the center of the head out, and to do the underneath, I plug the ear with my thumb and spray from my thumb to the outter edge, at an angle towards the dog's butt. I never spray water directly into the dog's face, as I have seen done at the groomers. I always start at the back of the neck and work up, holding the dog's head up, so the nose is higher that the rest of the head, with the sprayer directly on the skin. I do the throat, chin, and neck the same way, with the sprayer right against the skin. Hope this helps.... |

I put my hand on the top of their head holding the ears closed and also spraying down. I haven't had any problems. I just dry them really well. I don't like to use any "unnecessary" products on them if I don't have to. |
