Welcome to Yorkie Talk! |
Hi and Welcome to YT! Congratulations on your new puppy! If at all possible... see if your breeder will keep him with his Mom till he's 12 weeks old.... they learn so much from their Moms and littermates between 8 and 12 weeks, when they're allowed to stay. |
no the breeder says i can get him at 7 weeks but I think I'm going to let him stay until 8 or 9 weeks |
Welcome to YT |
welcome and congrats!! |

Welcome to YT...and I have to agree....waiting till 12 weeks is the best for the pup. My first yorkie was given to us at 8 weeks and we had lots of trouble with potty training and biting. He was also very distrustful of strangers. Now with Trixie....her breeder kept her till she was 12 weeks and she has a much easier going personality...no biting at all and much more success with potty training. |
:welcome4: to yt |
Welcome :) Lots of nice people and a wealth of information here. Oh my... 7-9 weeks is really early to be taken away from mom and sibs. Please be sure you keep forti-cal (or equivalent), and an emergency vet number on hand. |
i would like to thank everyone for the warm welcomes. Knowing what I know now I will most definitely will talk to the breeder about my baby staying with his mother until he's 12 weeks. |

Hi welcome. Is this a responsible breeder? Most breeders should know not to separate them from littermates and mother before 12 weeks... 8 weeks at the very bare minimum but 12 is recommended for small dogs. He will learn a lot from his litermates and mother about socializing plus it would be traumatic for such a small dog to be taken from his family. |
