Strange but not so strange behavior. Help!
 
Taz and I are moving back in with my parents since I just graduated college in December. Since moving back in with my parents I have noticed no strange behavior in him at all (He loves it there!) Well we recently returned back to our old place of residence to continue to pack up more of my stuff. I decided to bring Taz with me since my parents aren't use to him just yet. Well on Tuesday I found myself coming down with a cold, all of a sudden Taz has been having some of the strangest behavior. Taz has been trembling/shaking. It's not all day it's just a little here and there but he's eating fine. Taz also had a little bright red blood in his stool on Thursday so I took him to the Vet and she found nothing wrong with him. He's been fine and acting normal even after that. After he ate his nightly meal tonight he began gagging but he didn't throw up. I'm really worried for him but what's tripping me out is he's acting normal after all these incidents. Please help if you can! I'm slightly worried.

Stress and trauma can take on a lot of different symptoms in dogs and he may be a bit confused and anxious about the changes in his life right now. If your parents are not use to him, that too will make him feel anxious and nervous. If the Vet. found nothing wrong, then just give him a couple of weeks to adjust to his new surroundings and life style.

Well he acts fine at my parents house! I didn't experience any of this strange behavior until we returned back to our old place. I've been at my parents since Dec. 17. I'm guessing he just doesn't know whats going on. I'm just a little worried that's all.

Seems our dogs are sharing some symptoms! If the vet didn't find any problems I'd say it's an adjustment. Good luck! :)

I know that whenever we have moved into a new place I often take my dogs back & forth from the old house to the new & they will often shake. I am sure they are worried about getting left behind somewhere & they know something is up as things they are familiar with are being moved from one home to another. If your vet found nothing physically wrong with your pup it may be stressed induced colitis.

I have found that they don't like change and love a steady routine..just keep a check on him..Good luck and I hope the move isn't stressful for you too.

Going back and forth has probably caused some stress and made him anxious. I guess he wants to stay at your family's home. Maybe he was anxious that you'd leave him at the apt. If only they could talk!:)

I had a problem like that with Angel and took her in last week. She was also having mucus diarrhea AFTER her normal poop. No new stress, nothing changed in her routine. Soggy rice did not clear it up. Vet gave me some chewable pills to aid with digestion, Prostora, and give her a tsp of pumpkin pie filling twice a day for fiber. Seems to have done the trick. Kept her in her thermal jammies for a couple of days too. Hubby freaked out when she started shaking.

Sometimes it is hard to diagnose gastointestinal symptoms. If he has blood in the stool it indicates there is irritation in the intestinal area. It could be caused by stress or it could be he ate something that his body was not accustomed to. Shaking and coughing are reactions of what is going on inside him. Obviously he can't tell you. I'm sure we all have had occasional stomach cramps or pain. It may last only a few minutes but is enough to make us feel bad for that short period. You might want to try some probiotic cultures on his food to help get the enzymes in his belly back to normal. Nothing sweetened though.

I absolutely love this website! Thank each and everyone of you for helping me. This has totally stressed me out! I didn't know if I should try to go to another vet for reassurance. Taz is my everything so when something goes wrong with him it only makes me panic. He's been eating fine and acting normal it's just at times he cries. Taz had another episode of loose stool today with a small amount of blood. If you recommend any probiotics please give me names I will go out NOW and purchase them for my baby. I also have jammies for him too. Sad to say I'm in Texas (Houston) and the weather is 72 degrees. But again in Texas you can catch all four seasons in one week lol. Thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much for your advice!!

See that's exactly what happened with Taz today, he had mucus diarrhea AFTER a normal bowel movement. The vet didn't recommend anything which I thought was a little strange. Taz has been going to this vet since I first got him so she knows him well. I'm just really concerned. This type of behavior scares me and my Fiance' so I know exactly how your hubby feels.

Do you recommend any specific probiotic cultures?

Culturelle. I give them the kids version though I know people who use the regular adult formula. Just sprinkle it inn their regular food. It has the healthy bacteria that puts their little belly's back to the normal composition.
