Ears and size questions At what age did your Yorkie's ears stay up? I'm wodering if Bear's ears will stay like they are now? He just turned 5 mos. old on 12/30/11. Also, when do they stop growing? He weighs 4 lb 9 oz. I'm wondering how big he'll be. |
From what I understand they don't stand on their own. You have to make them stand :) If you don't they will be floppy which is super cute too! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/3757090-post20.html has a video about taping Oh and he will keep growing for a bit, I'm sure! I hear that doubling the weight at 12 weeks will give an estimate of their size. Mine is 6 months and 4 pounds 9 ounces. |

Awww he is so handsome! I'd keep his ears floppy, it fits his laid back vibe :) |
At 12 weeks Louie's ears were up.About a month later, the tip of one ear flopped .The breeder told me shaved the tip and it will stand up. It worked. Also, when they are teething sometime they will go down, which is what happened with Louie. I have also was told taping, but did not need to. Louie's ears were up at 5 months. Louie stopped growing around 11 to 12 months. |
Aww... Bear looks sooo adorable with floppy ears:) Sooo cute!! |
Anytime! Nutritionally challenged pups ears will flop, and pups with erect ears, when teething, their ears may flop, due to the teeth coming in. Some pups ears don't stand till later in puppyhood, like 8-12 months. Not meaning that all dogs with floppy ears are nutritionally challenged...lol. |

He probably was nutritionally challenged since he was fed Purina Puppy Chow, and he's definitely still teething. I know that Rusty's (who was a Yorkie/Maltese) ears went up and down until about 8-9 months, and then stayed up after that with long hair and nothing done to them. Ziggy still has one floppy ear, and he's three! I just wasn't sure if it was any different for a purebred Yorkie. |

Thanks! I love the floppy ears too! |
Bear is adorable. I would get his ears trimmed if you want to see if they will go up. All but one of my yorkies had their ears up when I got them and never went down. My first one's never went up but floppy ears fit him. lol Bear has the cutest face! |
4 Attachment(s) He's so cute! Jackson's went up right around 4 1/2 months old, when he got groomed and she tipped the ears, so it made them lighter and up they went within a few days. First pic - right before his 1st haircut Second pic - day of his first haircut Third pic - about a week after the haircut Fourth pic- his adult big ole' ears!! :) Oh and he was a big boy... he was 6lbs at 12 weeks and is now 16lbs at 3yrs old. :) |

I'm just wondering how big he'll be because he weighs more than what my others did at his age. The breeder said the mom was 5 1/2 lbs and the dad was under 5 lbs. He's already 4 lbs 9 ozs. |
My opinion is that each pup is sooooo different. Both of my girls ears were up from the time I got them. Sophie was 12 weeks and Bella was older. Maybe some "lineage" is involved as all the ones that I am aware of from our breeder were always erect ears. I will say that Yorkies have pretty big ears for little dogs!! Better to hear things to bark at.:D |
