anyone ever use... I am wondering if anyone has ever used a port a crate soft sided crate or the potty pad that is suppose to look like grass (as seen on tv) I was just wondering if they are good buys and work or if they don't work and should stay clear. |
I have never used the grassy pads, but i have seen post here about them |
I use a wire crate with only Pebbles. She loves her crate but it is not used for crate/potty training. As for the As Seen of TV potty grass I have seen posts on YT about the grass growing funk  From what I read it seems that the grass can not be washed properly and starts to stink. What we use are T. Bumpkins washable pee pads. They never smell, wash wonderfully and are very well made. I love the idea that you can pick them to match your decor too. Cathy is a YT member and offers a discount too. I highly recommend you check them out. I'm positive you will love them as compared to that stinky fake grass stuff ;) Washable and reusable dog and puppy pee pads, belly bands, and diapers by T. Bumpkins & Co. |
I use a fake grass mat similar to astroturf. I saw it online not on tv. I take my boy Jersey out regularly, but when he is in the house he also has access to the grass mat. It somas in very handy for inclement weather. Jersey does not like the rain or when it is cold. They have different sizes and I got the mini. It comes with a tray that you put something in to absorb the pee. Jersey is small so I am able to get away with using newspaper under the mat. You can also use pee pads or anything absorbent. He pees and poops on it with no problem and took to it very quickly. It is called Pup Grass by Pup Gear and My model is the Pup Head Mini. Mine has not grown any "funk" and washes up with soap and water. I bought an extra grass mat to use while the other one is drying. Hope this helps. |
I use the pet Zoom and it is also like turf grass and I keep it on my covered porch for prissy to use..I have no issues with anything growing and very easy to clean..Prissy is really using it a lot. I also have an extra pad for when the other is washed and drying. |
We tried the 'Potty Patch' and Princess thought I was crazy for trying to make her potty on it. Every time I turned around she was sleeping on it, I'm pretty sure she thought it was a new bed. |
Hi, I'm here to strongly advise *against* getting the Potty Patch (as seen on TV). Other similar products may be different, and well made though. I RAVED about it when we first got it, and Bella knew exactly what it was for the moment we put it on the floor. However, just in 2 weeks my review on this product has gone from an A+ to a solid F. It isn't anti-odor as specified in the advertisement. Within 1 week (regardless of how many times I washed it) it had a urine smell. Additionally, it sheds the false grass every time it's rinsed, which means it will be bare in a very short time. Lastly, the urine does NOT go through the grass all the way as specified. It collects in the hemp-like material used to bind the grass underneath (which is causing the smell to stay permanently). I give this product a big fail and advise to steer clear of it. =/ I REALLY like Nature's Miracle disposable pads. They have a grass scent and it only took Bella 2 days to train on those. I ordered two washables from T Bumpkins and Co. They haven't arrived as of yet, but T Bumpkins & Co provides priority shipping as well as tracking numbers so you can see where your package is and when it was sent. She shipped mine VERY quickly. I've read excellent reviews here and elsewhere on a constant basis about them, so I'm pretty excited for Bella to give them a try. |
We've never used them either...it's outside for my two. Bella does occasionally use the pad if I've missed her signals but Tuffy will not & has not ever used a pad. I do have a plastic runner down the hall (tan carpeting) & I've caught him on it a few times  I hope you find what works for you. |
I use the grass and potty pads...Mack only uses the grass, Bevo pees on the pads and poops on the grass and Bryleigh only uses the pads... Very confusing!! lol I havent had any real issues with odor...I take it outside and hose it down really well, then clean the tray well with disinfectant and spray the grass with Lysol about 2 or 3 times a week. I did try to throw the grass in the wash once with their potty pads...not a good idea!!! We just went on vacation over christmas...I took some "green grass" indoor outdoor carpet along and cut squares and laid on top of our potty pads so Mack would not be confused (didnt want to haul the tray around)....Made me think I can always just replace the grass on the tray whenever I need to! |
i started using the fake grass and while i was successful in getting sunny to use it, while he was a very young, he didnt pee enough of it to actually go through the pad and it would just sit on the surface. hence, we would often get pee on his little paws. also, after having 2 grass pads for about 2 months and having alternative use and washing everyday, i could not get rid of the horrible smell. in the end i had to get rid of it and use the plastic case for normal pee pads. this is far easier to clean/use and sunny seems to prefer this too. |
Potty Patch I don't have my Yorkie yet but I will soon! That being said, I was visiting my baby and breeder today and talked with her about the potty patch. She uses them with GREAT success with the pups! I actually witnesses 5/6 week old puppies using the patch! My breeder did say that the "grass" that comes with the setup does begin to stink as the urine does not go through the patch. So, instead of using what came with the set she buys Indoor Dog Potty Replacement Grass which she ordered from Target. She raved about the ease of cleaning of these and how they don't smell as they actually let the urine run through to the pad underneath... I am definitely getting one with these pads from target! |
I think the grass potty patch would be great if your dog likes it. Unfortunately my little stinker thinks its a new bed... |

We also got him a soft-sided crate for in the car when he was tiny - unfortunately he ate that, too!! :D I guess it depends whether your Littlie is a chewer and an escape artist? It's wire crates only now, for our little boy! Sally + Harry x |
It's best to pick out what you are going to use before you get your pup because once the pup is trained to one method it is difficult to switch them to something else. I looked at the fake grass method but figured it would require a lot of cleaning to keep it smelling right. I use pee pads and have been really happy with them. |
