Worried about Lulu... too small to spay? I haven't been on here in a little while.. but lulu has an appointment to get spayed on Monday and we are really worried for her. She is 15 months now and has had her first heat already.. she weighs 2lbs 7oz. We are getting the pre anesthetic blood work done, but we are still super worried that she might be too small. She was so miserable when she went into heat, we don't want her to go through it again. Anyone have advice? |

She is small. I don't have any knowledge of this but just wanted to say that my Maggie was under 4lbs when she was spayed. Best of luck. |

 Here's a similar thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ll-spayed.html .... under 2# I would be worried. |

I know how scary this can be, Alexis is 1lb 12 oz at one year. She was spayed at 8 months and about the same size she is now maybe a little smaller. My vet did all the pre testing and felt confident that all would be well, she also had 12 teeth removed. She did great, better than her sister who is 5.5lbs. She bounced back very fast, I had a hard time getting her to rest. I think as long as you have a great vet and take all the precautions, your baby will be fine. My Sofia was 2.5 lbs when she was spayed and she did great as well. My advice to you though is make yourself very busy the day of the surgery, so that you will be distracted. I went shopping and bought a ton of new things to spoil my girls. After all they deserve it. Good luck. |

I agree. Just make sure you have a great vet and they are use to working on these little babies. I was all set to take Kayla to a vet that more or less specialized in these smaller breeds. One my breeder recommended. I talked to my regular vet and I trust her completely and so decided to just let her do it because she has been great down through the years and real close to home, where the other vet was about 30min. away. Everything went great but I know how you feel. Its scarey as heck with these little ones. |

We are going to be getting our little Bryleigh spayed soon as well. I have the same concerns as you...she too is only 2.9 pounds. Having a great vet will make all the difference in the world! Good luck!! |

I can only imagine how you feel. My little girl is getting fixed on the 20th and is 4 pounds and I am a nervous freaking wreck! I have taken the whole day off work just so I can be close by If something goes bad. She is also having teeth removed and microchiped. I have also made an apt for our lab puppy to be fixed the same day since he is inside and her best friend I will be able to limit the playing and jumping with both of them at the same time. |

I waited until Gidget was 3 lbs, and then I made sure that the vet who did the spay was one that was fast, and used to tiny dogs. She did great! |
