Neuter question Our Vet (who is family) tells us when we bring our Yorkie in for his Neutering they will keep him overnight. Many posts I read here, say they PU their Yorkie same day. What's the best for the Yorkie? |
I would not leave my dog overnight in a hospital unless there was staff there monitoring him. I'd ask the vet who will be monitoring my dog if I leave him. If they say no one, then insist on taking your dog home. Both my males were neutered in the morning and home by 4 or 5 PM where they recovered at home w/ the family. |
I agree. I will not leave my pups overnight in a place where they are not supervised. A lot of vets recommend overnight stays because some people get upset if a pup shivers and moans which is very common after anesthesia. |
If no one is going to be there it is best they come home. Sometimes vets need convincing of that though also make sure you get pain meds just in case you need them |
chester came home that day, I would leave him unless there was someone there or unless there was a reason to |

I agree, I would not leave my boys unless someone is there the entire time monitoring. Our first vet insisted that I leave Max, I refused, and Max sealed his trip home by barking his head off. The office called me to pick him up early. :D |
I dropped Jaxon off at 8:00am and picked him up at 5:00pm. My vet never even suggested him staying overnight. Although, when I dropped him off there was a tiny female Pom being dropped off and she was staying overnight. I guess the spaying is a little more involved...I was so glad I have a boy cuz I wouldn't have been able to leave my baby!:( |
I have never had any of my "boys" stay overnight and I would question this |
I took Yoshi home the same day with no problems,,,Is it common for spaying to stay overnight? Prissy will be spayed when she is a little older but not liking the overnight thing and hopefully can bring her home. |
In my opinion the same rules apply for a neuter or spay. Unless there is staff at hand overnight, I don't see it being better for them to stay. I would feel better bringing my pup home where I can watch him overnight, and rush him to the ER vet in a worst case scenario. In my case, Kaji needed to be watched during the middle of the night. The pain meds he received didn't agree with him. I didn't get any sleep trying to keep him from bouncing off the walls. |
I agree with the others. Years ago I lost a beautiful Siamese kitten that was at the vet's over night just for IV hydration. I had no idea no one was there to monitor her. A male neuter is much less invasive than a female spay. Some vet's charge boarding fees for keeping your dog overnight. I would really question the need for keeping your little guy overnight. I'm sure you could give him much better one on one care at your own home. |
I just had Ziggy neutered yesterday morning and picked him up at 2:30 in the afternoon. He also had two baby teeth extracted and a dental. He was fine and ready to eat when he got home. I definitely don't think there's any need for an overnight stay. |
We just had Jessie spayed. She HAD to stay overnight. I was nervous about it, but there was someone there to monitor her all night. My vet said the pets actually rest better. I suppose that is true. If Jessie had come home she would not have been happy in her crate all night. But I was told she had no prolems, and slept through the night. She did not cry or show any signs of be unhappy. We picked her up the next morning, and she was happy, alert, and none the worse for wear. |
