New Yorkie Owner, help!! My husband and I just adopted a two year old yorkie named Miley. She was my friend's dog who was going to give her away to a shelter because she didnt have time for her anymore. It broke my heart to hear that so my husband and I took her in. We also have a 3 year old Jack Russell. As soon as I took her home with me I realized she had all these bumps all over her. They dont hurt her when I touch them, so could they be moles? I called my friend to ask her and she said she never really noticed them but she also didnt pay Miley much attention. It's kinda hard not to notice them, you feel them when you pet her back. There arent a ton or anything but just wondering what they are. She eats fine and doesnt act sick. Also my friend said she was groomed regularly so Im sure a groomer would notice something bad like that. Miley has a puppy cut and I was also wondering how long it takes to grow her hair out to the floor? I bought oatmeal shampoo so its good for her hair. :animal-pa |
Hi, welcome to YT and congratulations on rescuing your new baby. It's definitely worth taking her to the vet for a complete physical and especially to have the "bumps" checked. My Romeo gets occasional bumps and the vet said that his are the equivalent of human acne and nothing to worry about. With that said though, you can't make any assumptions -- your vet is the best expert. |
I would suggest taking her into the vet. Did you get from your friend the pup's health records? That would be a good thing to have. the bumps could be many things, your vet will let you know what they are. |

Btw, congrats on your new pup! Sounds like she is lucky to have you! |
Bless you for taking her in and giving her a loving home. In light of the fact that she wasn't paid much attention, I agree with the other posts to get her vet checked and also get her records from your friend (?possibly use the same vet?). Best of luck with her - would love to see pics! |
congrats! and very sweet to take her in and give her a good home! |
Congratulations on your new little one, and it is very kind of you to take her in. I agree with everyone else, take her in for a complete once over at your vet, and if you can get the medical records from the previous owner, that would be a great help to your vet. The bumps can be something simple, or not. Only a vet can tell you for sure. :) Again, congrats on your little girl! |
I'm glad Miley was rescued from her previous owner. It is so sad that they didn't notice for 2 reasons 1 she needed to be seen by a vet and 2nd she must not have been petted very much for the her not to notice. Hopefully the vet can tell you what they are and give her a good check up. I see you are in a warm climate could they be flea bites? Please keep us posted. |
Congrats on your new girl! I'm so glad she is now in a loving home! It's so sad to think one of these sweet little one aren't paid attention to. :( Please let us know what you find out at the vet. Sending good thoughts and prayers for Miley. |
Hi and welcome to YT. I wish I could be of help with the bumps but the best suggestion I have would be a vet visit. I just wanted to thank you and your husband for opening up your home and heart to Miley. It is so sad that her original owner did not pet her enough to feel the bumps. I am happy she is with you now and will know love and companionship now. Best wishes. |
Welcome! What a blessing that you and your DH are making Miley a member of your family. Hope she's getting along well with your other furbaby too. I too would get whatever the previous owner has in the way of records (worst case, get the name and number of the vet they were using - any visits/vaccines/illnesses she was seen for, etc. should be on record at their office). Then get her in for a checkup ;) As for her hair... it continues to grow (like human hair) but I can't tell you how long it will take to grow a full coat. I personally love Harry Barker's Oatmeal Shampoo and Conditioner. My girls stay in full coat (trimmed face) and I bath every two weeks - unless we're in the country with the horses and cows ;). I don't have to brush daily using these products, plus they smell really nice. Keep us posted and let us know what the vet says about her 'bumps'. |
Welcome and so happy that you took her to share with your family.. |
When ever you get a dog weather its a puppy or an adult dog you should take them to the vet for a check up and it sounds like the vet needs to look at the bumps anyway. The bumps could be allergies. |
