Getting around City Pet Limits?? Hi, I've found several Yorkies today. Some were on Craigslist and some are at the local kill and no-kill shelters. The pet limit for the city in which we reside, is any combination of 4 cats and dogs (2 cats/2 dogs, 3 dogs, 1 cat, etc). Just one more will put us at our limit. I'm wondering if there is a legal way to step around the city pet limit in order to house these yorkies until my husband and I can find them permanent homes? Any info would be appreciated. We live in Missouri. |
Maybe if you set up a non-profit rescue....? Not sure, but good luck! Maybe someone else who is more seasoned could give you some info or wait until Tuesday and call City Hall directly and ask them what permits would be needed to have more than 4 pets on a temporary basis of course.... |
I haven't the foggiest idea how to set up a rescue to be honest, nor do I know if we have all the funding required for legalities. =/ I'll look more into this tomorrow. I just took my meds so I'm a bit duh atm. Thank you for the info! G'night, and I'll check back tomorrow. |
If you say you are a breeder you could get around it you may have to pay a fee though not sure what that would be |
MMom, I agree with chachi, IF you say you're a Breeder, you'll probably need a Business License. But, does the area you live in, permit Businesses (HOA/Zoning) ? Then, check with the Health Dept, if there are any stipulations there. Do you think you could just "ease" um in, and not say anything about it to anyone ? How nosy are your neighbors ? HA, all that sounds SO negative, but I'm actually rooting for those little guys getting into a better (your) home, even if they're just passing through :thumbup: |
Well honestly I'm not worried about the neighbors on either side of us being busy-bodies about it, they own pets and treat them very well. What I'm worried about is the occasional "visitor". You know...the gas man if the water heater poops out, or the electrician if the furnace has a hiccup, etc. That, and honestly I'm just really not keen on the idea of not doing it the right way. I really don't want to have to become a licensed breeder.:eek: A friend of mine is starting up breeding yorkies, actually, and I'm helping her with her web page. It's really teaching me that it's something I definitely don't want to do, lol. It just wouldn't feel right to be titled a breeder by the state of MO if I'm not a breeder at all. =/ I thought for sure there would be exceptions for people who are rescuing pets from shelters and unaltered craigslist pets (to get them fixed and rehome) but I can't find anything on our gov/city page(s). aaaaaargh. |
I just wanted to wish you luck in your search for info, I had no idea that cities had limits on the number of animals you can have. I would contact the city and whereever you license dogs with, and ask if you are permitted to have more if you are fostering, cause to me the city would want someone to help foster homeless animals if the rescues are overworked... possibly contact your local rescue too maybe they have a way to get around it, if you were to be put on their list as an approved foster? |
Some places have what they call a kennel license. you could check for that. |
