My lovely Yorkies Hi all, I'm new to this web site and would like to say hello. I have 2 beautiful Yorkies! Benz is 2 and Zaffi is 3. We have had Benz since he was a puppy and is very funny and very lively, which we think is great. Zaffi was my parents until they moved to Spain 1 year ago. She settled in straight away and both dogs wouldn't be without one another. She has been neutered but Benz hasnt. We were advised from our vet that Benz shows no sign of having to be neutered so he hasn't. But today I'm a little worried about Zaffi, she refuses her food, even her most favourite, she's sleeping a lot and Benz won't stop sniffing her. We tried the door bell she did get up and have a Bark but not as mad as usual. Benz won't settle he just keeps wondering up and down the room. Zaffi does have a funny smell about her, is she just having an off day or do I speak to the vet if she doesn't improve by tomorrow eve. Thank you |
Is she drinking water don't wait to long if she doesn't start eating..welcome aboard |
How spooky was that, just as I was finishing reading your thread she walked over to her water dish, but turned away. I took her back over ther and held the dish up to her mouth and she drank some water. After I took her for another short walk, she was excited to go out but not as excited as she usually is. She won't leave my side and is following me every where. When i stop she sits and waits. But still very quiet.. She just looks so sad!!! Thank you for your words, |
Hi I'm a recently new owner of 4 puppies and i couldn't really see if she was pregnant except she barked more at any noise and did the talking bark (if you now what i mean) then when she was a couple of weeks near the end of her pregnancy she suddenly got big belly the puppies where way up in her ribs then the last week you could really feel them moving in her tummy :p it was really lovely to feel new life in her tummy |
Ahh wow, what a surprise. A nice surprise |
Welcome to YT. I have never heard of a vet stating a male yorkie shows no signs of needing to be neutered. Neutering a puppy is the responsible thing to do to prevent unwanted pregnancies and to prevent cancer later in life. I would definitely check with the vet to see what is going on with your female. |
I will talk to the vet tomorrow, and as we do have a new vet I will ask for advise about the male being nuetered too. Thanx |
It could just be an off day Callie has some of those but if it lasts more then a day I would go ahead and let the vet check her out. I very much would get your boy neutered. There have been some crazy stores of what a male dog unfixed will do to get to a female in heat. Also if he were to ever get lost and a bad person got a hold of him they could use him in a puppymill or sell him for a lot of money. |

The case for male neutering as a preventative health issue is probably not across all breeds and all dogs axiomatic. In fact a vasectomy could just as easily acheive "unwanted pregnancies" without depriving the male of their much needed hormones. Also owners due diligence, can prevent unwanted pregnancies as well! Females are less clear in terms of health risks/benefits for sterilization. Again tubal ligation can prevent pregnancies. |
Most owners don't successfully do "due diligence.";) |
Well good news, Zaffi has her appetite back, looking for more food, I've only given her a little as I don't want her to be sick. So she must have just had an off day. Will watch her though. Benz (male) doesn't hump every thing, just has a little go at his bed, but very rarely. It's got a lot less since he's got older. The vet said there are no concerns about his testicles. But if I'm concerned then it's up to me. He's very settled and when we do go to the park he is very inquisitive but if the owner informs me that their dog is on heat we will leash him and take him to another park. But so far we have only had this happen once, It seems that other pet owners keep their pets away. He is a very lively and playful dog, but that is why we went for a Male Yorkie, they have more character then any other breed i know. The only problem I would say we have with him is he doesn't like Toddlers around me. He likes babies and older children. I'm always open to different ways of trying things out. It We have tried different ways to curb this, |
